The covered, baptismal font is placed near an entrance to the nave. The location symbolizes its role in making an initial commitment to the religious community.

Overlooking the font is a statue of Elihu Yale, President of Fort St. George at different times during the period August 1784 - October 1792. He was eased from office on suspicion of corruption.

It was after his return to England that Yale was approached by Cotton Mather and Jeremiah Dummer to make a donation to a fledgling college in the eastern United States, in return for which, the college would be named after him. While Jeremiah Dummer made a more generous contribution, it was felt inappropriate to name the college Dummer College. (Enough said!)
