Photographer's Note
Bharatanatyam originated in southern India in the state of Tamilnadu. It started as a temple dance tradition called Dasiyattam (the dance of the maid-servants) 2000 years ago and is perhaps the most advanced and evolved dance form of all the classical Indian dance forms.
The name Bharatanatyam is a simple derivation from the four most important aspects of dance (in Sanskrit). These are: Bha from Bhava meaning emotion, Ra from Raaga meaning music or melody, Ta from Taala meaning rhythm and Natyam meaning dance. Thus Bharatanatyam is the dance that encompasses music, rhythm and expressional dance or Abhinaya and strictly adheres to the Natyashastra (the scripture of classical Indian dance). This dance style is characterised by a linear form of the body without any pronounced movement of the upper body and linear spatial patterns, which make the dance form extremely dynamic and powerful.

Hi Anjan,
So you are back with your posts! This is really wonderful. The dark b/g and the bright red "Sari" of the dancer really fits wonderfully. The ornaments and the pose of the dancer is also well captured. What is most impressive to me is the facial expression of the dancer..aha the smile!
Very informative note of this old art of India.

Hi Anjan,
For a stage shot, this is just about perfect. The colours are accentuated by the pitch black BG. A real eye catcher.
Best Wishes

Anjan,
A fantastic one here...
Shobana is a impressive dancer, true heritage from her late aunt Padhmini, who was also an Cine actress of yesteryears...
The moment is never lost here...So much perfect shot..
I would have liked to know the metrics & technicality of this exceptional shot.
Cheers,
Prem.

Hello Anjan
A difficult shot I presume, going by my experiences of capturing dancers on camera...you've done very well here, with her pose just beautiful, as is her radiant face. Stunning against the black BG.
