Photographer’s Note
For the Indian Women, Feets are the most significant icon of beauty. In many parts of the country, its a ritual to colour the border of their sole with dye which is fairly permanent.
Add to that, a Pajeb. Its an aklet made up of silver chain with artistic patterns with silver globules hanging which are bells that ring on slightest of movement. Pajebs have traditionally been an object of desire and has many stories of romance weaved around them. In romance, its an ultimate gift which communicates a subtle message of lust.
In the legendary movie Laila Majnu, the song "yeh Reshmi Pajeb ki Jhankar...." (- The tingling music of my anklet....) still remains in public memory.
In this photo, you see a women on the beach with sea water waves washing her feet every 10 seconds and taking away the colour. However, the colour is yet to go. The Pajeb is clearly visible and see the feet.
Cheers,
Satyakki
