Photographer’s Note

Bitter melon or bitter gourd is a tropical and subtropical vine of the family Cucurbitaceae. It is bitter in taste and the Indian bitter melon has small spike like growth in its outer cover. When it is raw the outer cover is green and the seeds are wrapped in white flesh. When it grows ripe, the outer cover moves towards a light yellow tinge & the flesh that covers the seeds inside turns to a bright red shade.

Here in the snap I have used a ripe bitter melon/gourd and cut it in 2 halves, to gives the seeds a richer tone, I have filled the seeds of both halves into one half and kept it in a white porcelain plate. I have over exposed the shot to bring to enhance the whiteness of the plate underneath, which in turn will bring out the color contrasts or yellow, green & red in the picture.
