spiral stairway, a photo from Kerala, South

Photographer's Note

Kadalur Point Lighthouse near Calicut in Kerala, was constructed by the British about a century back. The structure and the gear mechanism of the lighthouse is quite well maintained while the traditional lamp is now replaced by a Halogen lamp.

It was so dark inside that it was a difficult shot handheld, but other than the washed out window, guess I managed to get the exposure pretty well :)

The subject is quite classical here on TE but this one is really impressive
A splendid long perspective of the helicoidal stairs and a very visual impact of the red wall and handrail which contrast very well with the white parts

Wonderful capture of this spiral stairway in the lighthouse.
The bars of the wooden railing provide a beautiful graphical effect.
I also like the alternation of red and white.

Like a spiral or a part of a horror movie. Very nice! Maybe if the center would be a little more right and up it would be perfect!

A classic POV, of course, but a very effective version here. The light from each successive window illuminating the stairs opposite them is wonderful, as is the rich red color. You did indeed manage the exposure well, and the contrast of shadow and light all the way down provide a brilliant and sharp sense of depth here. The inclusion of just a sliver of the nearest railing at bottom offers a great entryway into the shot, sending me spinning through the frame. Very nicely done.

Spiral and expecially lighthouse's stair are for sure a great photo subject with strong graphic impact.
Here again, it is evidenced with as bonus the color contrast between red and white.
