Great shot albeit sad news, it shows in their eyes. I like the central position of the man in focus and the two other workers being out of focus but not too much. Long sentence for saying: nice compo and good DOF.

A stunning portrait of this guy Arindam - the eyes are so mesmerising - great clarity and tone - have you selectively PP'd the forward guy at all - he sticks out (almost too much) from the background.
It's one of those images where you almost feel that you are reading the face - the character from the inside out - good work!
Many years ago I had to deal with the bodies of two people who had suffered such a collapse on top of them - I had to clean the bodies and show them to their relatives - impossible to make them look nice or hide the awful effects upon their faces. By coincidence I also ended up sitting on the Coroner's jury at the inquest.....but that's another story......
A very fine image.
best wishes Kev

Hi Arindam.
Une image forte ! Un très beau piqué sur ce visage central et une attitude pleine d'émotion. Le cadrage est très très bon je trouve, et ce n/b amplifie ces attitudes et ces visages marqués.
Une belle compo très émouvante.
Bravo

Hello Arindam,
this is a very honest, straight on shot that rally gets the humanity of the subjects. It is indeed sad news that you link to and the photo gives that feel to us.

What a perfect portrait! Your linking that to the delhi incident was really appropriate. And yes, sad but true, many may not be able celebrate X’mas or new-year. Those are just two days in their calendar. Two earning days!

Arindam, hello. Very sad to hear this news, and the picture is given an even stronger quality by the bbc article...
The composition is very powerful, with the burning black eyes of the construction worker in the middle, his intense expression... a superb portrait, sad slice of life.
A great and strong work this is, Arindam!

PS Have a happy new year. May it bring you (and India) many blessings.

Powerfull potrait !! BW does justice to the pic.

P.S. How do you convert coloured pics into BW in PS? When I try to do it, it's not half as good. Is there something special?

Incredible eyes, one of the most moving portraits I've seen lately. Of course there's one famous picture that immediately came to my mind... Salgado's portrait of 3 indian workers that you can see here. Same kind of look : something in between pride and fatalism.
BW was of course the way to go, however, I think there were some ways of post processing that would enhance this beautiful portrait, see my WS.
