Photographer’s Note

One among our childhood pastimes was to run behind Butterflies and catch them, sometimes during that process we would unintentionally harm them or render them flightless. Elders around us hardly bothered to check the damage the little boys were doing to the Butterflies.

Couple of years ago, I was watching my neighbour's little boy do the same and I as my elders did during my Childhood, was watching him in amusement.

Just then the little boy's Mother came out, saw what he was doing and stopped him from doing it; They were quite close I could hear what she was saying. She told the little boy, "These little Butterflies and insects are the one who convert flowers into Fruits and berries that we eat. If you harm the Butterflies, we will not get Honey and Fruits like Mangoes. Just watch them, but don't catch or harm them"... The little boy seemed to get the logic although not completely, but the important thing is that he stopped chasing them.

That lesson not only went to the little boy but also to me, and I will surely pass it on to my little daughter too: Ofcourse we did learn about pollenation during our school days, but the practical implications of our act was never explained to us the way we understand.
It is true, "You will protect only what you Love, you will Love only what you understand and you will only understand what you are Taught! A lot has changed since then to me, I've learned to love and respect Nature like never before!
