Photographer's Note
The sanctuary of the temple is of greater size than that of other cave temples in the area, particularly those at Badami. It is reached by a few steps, being elevated from the mandapa in front of it. There are two columns placed so as to divide the opening into three parts of approximately equal size. On each side of the left and rightmost openings, there are large carved statues.
The lingam within the shrine signifies the unmanifest presence of Lord Shiva, known as the destroyer of all things, but especially of ignorance. His work in this world is far from finished.
