Photographer’s Note
In Guntur Distt. of Andhra Pradesh, one village named Uppalapadu is there. This is the heaven for the birds of many species, but especially Pelicans and Painted Storks. Some years ago, some pelicans and painted storks came to a pond, meant for the drinking water for villagers.
The villagers were not aware of the ecology or natural habitat of birds, but they decided to dig another pond to cater to the needs of their drinking water facility adjoining the present pond. They did so.
After that, every year, thousands of birds come to the same pond, but they limit themselves only to the older pond and not a single bird goes to the new pond. This is very surprising to the visitors. In a pond of only 200x300 Mts. eight to 10 thousand birds come, prepare their nests, breed and fly away in due course.
This picture I have taken in the Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary.
