Photographer's Note

Country woman (of tribal origin) in Araku, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. The Araku valley is native to about 19 tribes, and not knowing the local language, Telugu, there was no way I could find out to which one she belonged. Busy sorting out the curry leaves, she paid no attention either to the scorching sun or to me while I took her pictures. What she is sitting on are not the branches, but the roots of a giant banyan tree.
Curry leaves are used as seasoning in southern and west-coast Indian cooking, and Sri Lankan cooking, especially in curries. (Wikipedia)
The word curry, of course, is an imperfect generalization for a variety of dishes belonging to the subcontinent.
