Country woman (of tribal origin) in Araku, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. The Araku valley is native to about 19 tribes, and not knowing the local language, Telugu, there was no way I could find out to which one she belonged. Busy sorting out the curry leaves, she paid no attention either to the scorching sun or to me while I took her pictures. What she is sitting on are not the branches, but the roots of a giant banyan tree.
Curry leaves are used as seasoning in southern and west-coast Indian cooking, and Sri Lankan cooking, especially in curries. (Wikipedia)
The word curry, of course, is an imperfect generalization for a variety of dishes belonging to the subcontinent.

sometimes we use things on every day basis without giving a think where they come from or how they are produced. Thanks for this informative note and very nice picture well illustrating it.
The woman in the picture is very busy with her activity and does not pose for the photo which has very nice and natural result. The composition is nicely planned.
Great colors, well handled light and good sharpness.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your evening

This is an excellent picture of daily life. It's nicely composed, the colours are fine and - along with your note - it's a very informative photo. When i first heard of curry leaves I thought it was some kind of Western misunderstanding, since "everyone" knows that curry is supposed to be a mixture of a lot of spices, or as you say a general name for a lot of Indian dishes. The question now remains for me: did the leaves get their name from the mixture, or did the mixture get its name from the leaves? Or did they both get their names from the average dish?
Which came first, chicken curry or egg curry? :-)

Hi Satya, A wonderful daily life presentation with a woman sorting out the curry leaves. Great composition and nice light. The roots she is sitting on are huge, I could imagine the size of the tree itself. Thank for sharing

Nice and interesting capture, and TE entry.
Learning the World through TE.
I use curry as a powder in my kitchen but didn't have any ideas about it's form in nature.
TFS and best regards

piacere di conoscerti! Complimenti per la tua bacheca, la tua terra è bellissima e piena di colori! Mi piace molto questa signora a lavoro, la luce e la nitidezza della composizione, un immagine delicata in tutta la sua semplicità!

the lady has settled so nicely on the enormous banyan roots, the scenery and your frame. The scene you captured is very natural and interesting. I had never seen fresh curry leaves before. The composition is simple and effective, the intricacy of the surroundings and the incessant blend of light and shadows were very challenging for exposure and clarity. You dealt with the challenges very aptly. Sharpness and depth are exquisite, I like that we can see the lady's meaningful expression and that she stands out as 3D. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

Hi Satya. The daily work of women. In most Third World countries, the women more than the men work. And by the way, I realize again and again how much more beautiful the women are dressed as men.

this lady looks very elegant in your photo. Though she is working hard, the way you have captured this and the magical light allows me easily imagine her playing a violin our other delicate musical instrument. She could very easily be the subject of a classical painting by a grand master
have a great weekend

Belle prise de la vie quotidienne. Elle dégage de la tranquillité. La photo est bien cadré. le sujet est net et ne semble pas gêné par la prise.
