[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world located at an altitude of 17,800 feet. It lies on the North Sikkim (India) in a high plateau area contiguous to the Tibetan Plateau. The stream emerging from the lake is one of the source-streams of the Teesta River.
The lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava. The lake remains completely frozen in the winter months from November to Mid-May except for one small part of the lake which is supposed to be touched and blessed by the Guru Padmasambhava.
Due to the extremely inhospitable surrounding terrain and considering the altitude, this place has scarcity of oxygen. First-time visitors are advised to stay overnight at Thangu (altitude 13500 feet).

Hello Sumanta,

Gurudongmar is actually a nature photographer's paradise...very well taken with great colours and the terrain...I love the colour of water here...and it sure looks like a paradise on earth at 17800 ft..!!

What r those white dots of the water of the lake ..r they the wave breaks..???

Regards,

Indro

Absolute beauty! The focus could have slighly been shifted towards the snowed peek on the right to get a even majestic view!! Great beauty though..tfs :)

Hi Sumanta,

This is one of the best image of Gurudongmar lake on TE.The blue colour of water and sky is marvelous.Composition is perfect. I missed to go Gurudongmar during my last visit to Sikkim. Your picture made me feel the soul of the place.

But Regarding note, I have read somewhere that Gurudongmor is named after Sikh Guru Guru Govind Singh who visited the place during his visit to Tibet.

Regards

Niraj Sinha
