About the Photo :
This is the first post of my 'Borong' album.
Took this one at 'Wild Flower Retreat' on a beautiful morning in the small, serene, solitary, sleepy and picture perfect village of Borong in South Sikkim India.
Quick Facts :
Borong, at an altitude of 5800 feet is a small hamlet located amidst tranquility, mountains, greenery and colorful flowers in South of Sikkim. One of the very few options of stay at this beautiful hilly village is the 'Wild Flower Retreat' with small, nicely decorated cottages set against lush green vegetation and wild flowers. The first thing that will strike you at Borong is the absolute silence only occasionally broken by chirping of birds and murmur of breeze blowing through the trees.
How to Reach :
The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri. From there you can hire a car that will take you to Borong via Namchi and Ravangla. Borong is just 17 kms from Ravangla. It can also be reached from Pelling or Gangtok by car.
Things to See and Do :
Borong offers some extraordinary views of the majestic Mt. Kanchenjungha and one can also catch glimpses of other snow-capped peaks like Sinolchu, Narsingh and Pandim.
The village is the base for trekking to Maenam Peak and there is also a trekking route starting at Namchi that ends in Borong. Borong is a paradise for bird-watchers as it is home to a wide variety of Himalayan birds like the scarlet minivet, black magpie and the Himalayan pheasants.
Some 5 kms away is the Ralong Monastery. One can also visit other places like Famtam Village, Gurang Monastery, the Silver Falls and the Barmely Bridge. There is a hot spring, known as 'Borong Tsa Chu' located at a distance of 3km from Borong, on the bank of the river Rangit.
