Photographer’s Note
Its brothers and sisters were still screaming in agony in a makeshift slaughterplace down the road when this pig was already heading for a truck to be delivered to a butchers' shop.
This is from Meghalaya in northeastern India, a state with a large proportion of Christians, meaning fewer vegetarians than in most parts of India.
Daily death of some is part of daily life for others.

Hej Gert,
Should be a new category here; Daily Death ;-! Bur still a very good capture with a clear documentary value and realism. Good composition!

Hej Gert,
although I am strongly against killing animals and scenes of death - or post-death (be they even part of someone's daily routine to which they are so much used to), I much appreciate this shot: very good capture of the moment. The POV was chosen very well!
Also, I agree with Gunnar about adding a new category to TE :)
Best regards,

Hello Gert,
as farmers say in this part of ther world - where there is livestock there is deadstock. This a strong subject honestly treated. If you want to eat meat then this is what comes first. I feel sorry for the porter here though as I guess the pig weighs a lot.You have a good light here and your subjects are perfectly placed.

Bev

Hello Gert. Like that is the world ....... An impressive photo. Very realistically and authentically. As it seems, the man is strong. A good shot. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Gert,
I saw this a few days ago and was too busy to comment on it. Here I am, can not ignore it, while there some newer one that you post is more soothing and pleasing to look at. This one for sure is vey compelling daily life image, heart breaking for the animal and very much for the people. Life is touch, such hard work to have to carry such load on you forehead. I have one similar shot that they carry a piece of lumber. Excellent daily life image. One that make you realize how lucky we are. Thanks

Hello Gert
What a way to depart the world...at someone's back ;) in both meanings of the term.
The large format presentation works well for this picture and the pig looks like he is at peace now
Thanks for sharing

Hello Gert, I grew up in the city & never saw livestock killed for human consumption, when I found out that the meat I was eating was once a live animal I found that I could not eat meat anymore, that of course did not last long as I still eat meat as my grand father & his great grandfather etc. did before him, only maybe we eat more now because now there is more money to spend.
An excellent daily life (death for some) captured in fine detail & colour. I don't know how he can carry that pig, I think he will suffer from back pain later in life. ;-)
Well done,
Happy Easter

Hej Gert,
you managed to capture this scene excellently, although the light conditions were very difficult. One can even smell the air and feel how hard he is working. I wonder how many pigs he has to carry every day. A great capture and a very good note!
Warm regards
Harriet

Hi Gert, this is an interesting daily life scene. It's almost enough to make one give up eating meat entirely. What a load he's carrying here. This type of shot is what TE is all about (or should be anyway). Great work!

Hi Gert,
Very strong shot with very hard working man... But i like expression of his face, as he's going to target:) I also like your note - very good job!

Your collection of photos from different places of the world is fantastic, this one is recent but things are moving slowly in that part of India and I had first thought that this was also an old photo !
Great (and terrible) image, I cannot bear to hear the screams of these beasts dying slowly... this was before the health scare, many more are now being slaughtered (in Egypt and maybe other places too) - great document anyway, this animal must not be so light to carry !
Best,
Cath.
(PS : great note too !)
