Just across the border of Bangladesh near the Tamabil-Dawki checkpost flows the beautiful Dawki river with greenish-blueish water so clear that one can see the bottom of the river even from as high as the bridge over the river. It flows very close to the customs checkpost at Dawki with Jaintia Hills District on one side and East Khasi Hills District on the other. As it enters the plains of Bangladesh it loses its beautiful color and becomes heavily strewn with rocks and small boulders.
Located at the end of the Guwahati-Shillong-Dawki Raod, Dawki is a small town well known for its sweet, juicy orange markets.
I took the photograph, just after crossing the Bangladesh border, near the beautiful suspension bridge (built by the British colonial rulers before India's independence) over the Dawki river on our way to Cherrapunjee. Again, like many of my previous posts it was almost noon. I was so much taken by the tranquility of the place - the river and the fishermen, the boats which seemed to be floating on air I took some shots instead of the harsh light. Later in photoshop I decreased the Brightness and added slight USM.

Like they are floating above the water so crital clear that we see even their shadows on the bottom of the river, a very fine detailed shot seeing even peeople on the other side of the rocks, a natural well saturated and contrasted shot like we were seeing it there.

I crave for these waters, and then, in the very moment I refrain from desiring it, it's the purest thing I've ever seen in the lowly world, how dare I dream about getting near it!
But eyes, mine and yours, can do no harm, on the contrary they celebrate that marvel.
And yours the first. From a grateful eyewitness ;)
Thx, regards, F'

Wonderful photo !
The shadows of these boats are not on the surface of the water but on the bottom. It creates strange effect - boats look like floating in the air above the water.

strange, the boats look like flying over the water. Stunning colour of the sea.
I like the composition of these fishers.

Great colours! With such a water, fishermen can easily see the fishes! The sharpness is also excellent. What I like less is the framing. As fishermen are the subject of the picture, I would have resized closerly to them, making an horizontal framing (like a panoramic).
Otherwise, it's technically perfect and I appreciate your long note.

it is so beautiful to look at this picture, the emerald color is just so soothing for the eyes. this is an extraordinarily beautiful take, great composition indeed. As we know, these areas are stunning for photos, but are less seen in photosites. Thanks for posting one from here.

Wonderful capture. It seems that the boats are all floating over the water. The colours are great. Never seen so much green colour of the water. Very well captured and good framing.

A magical place and a very nice shot. Makes me want to see this place for myself to believe the natural beauty I see here. I just hope that this place remains as clean and pure as we see it here. Thanks for sharing this Kazi.

One of the rare shots of mother nature with elements of human beings. I get the feeling ==the boats are hanging in the air.
Marvellous composition with the fishermem.
You really deserve three cheers. :)) :)) :))

Good eye and a great job.
As Henk has correctly pointed out, the boats look like "floating-above" the water.
Good work & TFS

What an incredibly beautiful view! The water's lustre is so irridiscent as I have never seen in a river. Indded the boats are seemingly afloat in the air. A magical place! Hope some day I can visit the place. Thanks for bringing it to us.

Very beautiful capture, Kazi! I am impressed with the clear waters there, one could see the shadows of the boats.

Beautiful shot! The boats seem to float in mid-air! The emerald green colour of the crystal clear water really seems inviting. I would have liked it even more if the image were rotated a little bit so that the boats fall in a horizontal line with respect to the frame of the picture. However, a charming shot indeed.

What a wonderful combination. Great job man
Suppiluliuma (3913) 2011-08-12 2:22
They seem to be flying indded. The fact that there is nothing to be focused on between the fishermen adn the rocky coast creates a strange tension and the eyes go back to the boats.
