The India Gate is the national monument of India and it is situated in the heart of New Delhi. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and built in 1931.Inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris,it is a prominent landmark in Delhi and commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the World War I. It is composed of red and pale sandstone and granite.Another memorial, Amar Jawan Jyoti was added much later, after India got its independence.
