DELHI-I( IMAGES FROM DELHI - FIRST IN A SERIES OF 5 IMAGES).
During a recent visit to the Indian Capital,I happen to get some leisure time out a of tight schedule to shoot some photographs which I am going to share with my friends on TE.This one was shot at Old Delhi's Jama Masjid, one of the largest and most well known mosques in India. This is the Eastern Gate of the Mosque as visible from the Courtyard.
Some Tidbits about Jama Masjid :
The foundation of the historic Jama Masjid was laid on a hillock in Shahjahanabad by the fifth Mughal Emperor of India, Shahjahan, on Friday, October 19,1650 AD,. The mosque was the result of the efforts of over 6,000 workers, over a period of six years (1650–1656 AD). The cost of the construction in those times was 10 lakh (1 million) Rupees.Emperor Shahjahan also built the Taj Mahal, at Agra and the Red Fort in New Delhi, which stands opposite the Jama Masjid. The Jama Masjid was completed in 1656 AD (1066 AH), with three great gates, four towers and two 40 m-high minarets constructed of strips of red sandstone and white marble.About 25,000 people can pray here at a time. The mosque has a vast paved rectangular courtyard, which is nearly 75 m by 66 m. The whole of the western chamber is a big hall standing on 260 pillars all carved from Hindu and Jain traditions. The central courtyard is accessible from the East. The Eastern side entrance leads to another enclosure containing the mausoleum of Sultan Ahmed Shah.

Good evening Farhat,
Red stone edifice well in contrast against the blue sky.
people around and in front, gave scale to the size of this mosque, and two sides archs are beautiful in view. maybe a few metters backwards would had shown more of the archs. Anyway, a fine scene collected.

A very beautiful memory for me. I've visited the Jama Masjid in 1994. I've also climbed to the top of one of its minarets.
Very beautiful architecture and a pleasant bustle in the courtyard.
Best regards, Paul

You're capturing well this achitecture by a good composition and excellent tone, so it's interesting and impressive to see the large mosque with strong structure and wide courtyard in front of it. It's impressive in many poles on roof, too. In order to show one's power, it seems to the king of a time that there is a tendency to build a grand building also in what country.

A fine picture of one small part of the giant structure making the Jama Masjid. The building is beautiful and well structured and the late afternoon sun gives it a wonderful warm glow. Having some people in the foreground is, as always, a great advantage.

A really great photo where peoples' clothes add some colour to the scene. It was probably taken after sunset and the even light makes it possible to see every detail of the architecture. TFS and have a nice day!

Looking at your shot nothing seems to have changed at the old Jama Majid, which I last visited in 2000. So far I did not have the time to travel again to India, my workload keeps me in South East Asia. But I will return. Fine colour hues and sharpness. Well done

Namaskar dear Farhat
An excellent wide-angle view of this majestic and very beautiful mosque. I like the golden tones, the intricate architectural details and the good contrast against the sky. The people, of course add a sense of size and scale, aswell as dynamism to this interesting photo.
Thanks for sharing, have a good evening

the weak light of the late afternoon create a nice balance between the luminous areas and the darkest areas, and give a few pleasant warm colors on the gorgeous architecture of the mosque, as well.
People adds a lot of vitality in the composition.

Pleasing shot of the Jama Mashid mosque, allways such a busy place as I remember. The photo has a timeless and somewhat aged feel to it, like a picture out of the 70ties.
have a good time
nikkitta (17066) 2013-04-23 12:25
I am lucky to have been twice times at this beautiful mosque
Beautiful and original capture ( you avoid the fountain) add a nice frame and obtain a good contrast between the orange building and the sky
Well done, congrats
danos (96760) 2013-04-26 6:48
nice the view of the mosque of Jama Masjid that is customized with the Indian architectural style.I like the colour of its walls with the people to create scale Vs the construction.
Didi (60588) 2013-04-26 10:26
Good point of view, we are able to appreciate the architecture volume
However the dark building gave an influence to your camera sensor, that's why the sky is a little bit clear
I have done a WS

the colour and contrast management have given the photo a special atmosphere and allure, it looks like an old postcard and is fascinating. The architecture is wonderful, the great perspective and depth of your picture, as well as very good sharpness, have provided an interesting description of it. The presence, movement, postures and colours of the people animate the scenery and give it a pleasant vibrance. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great month,
pierrefonds (65276) 2013-05-01 16:57
The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The wideness of the square is giving depth to the composition. The point of viuew is showing the details and colours of the architecture of the mosque. Have a nice day.

Very beautiful contrast of the red stone with the soft blue sky.

mirosu (16041) 2013-05-06 21:40
As I can see I missed many of your nice photos from India. I like the view up to this imposing mosque. I also like that you captured people at the ground level. Their placement gives the viewer a very good idea of how large the mosque is. Greetings, Miro
ChrisJ (112315) 2013-05-08 12:34
Good sharpness with a superb warm vs cold color contrast between the blue sky and the red walled mosque. I like the angled pov. The people add scale and context. Nice repetition of the arched windows and columns with excellent density and light contrasts. Tfs!
mkamionka (35866) 2013-05-19 2:47
