Photographer’s Note
I just can't get enough of Bedni Bugyal...
Bugyal means a high altitude grassland in the local dialect. Bedni is at an altitude of around 3500 mts and commands an awesome view of the Himalayan Ranges. Trisul and Nanda Ghunti peaks are almost at a stone's throw from this lush green meadow.
All the villagers graze their sheep and horses here. The place is sacred to Nanda Devi. There is a temple of Nanda Devi next to a small lake called Bedni Kund.
Every 12 years thousands of devout pilgrims make an arduous trek to Roopkund from Nauti Village. They follow a mysterious four horned lamb that is born every 12 years near Wan village. The lamb leads them to Nanda Devi shrine through Bedni Bugyal, Roopkund & Homkund and then on its own and finally disappears. This Yatra (pilgrimage) is known as 'Nanda jat' or 'Raj jat Yatra'.
