This is a shot of the River Ganges at 'Har ki Pauri' ghat in the city of Haridwar. Ganges is considered a holy river by the Hindus. Haridwar means 'Gateway to the Lord' and rightly so because Haridwar is the first city on the Indo-Gangetic plain which the Ganges enters after leaving her Himalayan abode.
'Har ki Pauri' which literally means 'footsteps of the Lord' is the most sacred bathing ghat in Haridwar.
This shot is taken just after the Ganga Arati on the ghat. The Arati is a special worship performed in the evening with huge lamps by the side of the river. The devotees after watching over the ritual have not yet departed and they are enjoying the beauty of the fast flowing Ganges.
Thanks for looking.

hello dear Subho,
I can remember this view. Those lamps in river. Such a speed of water in bed... Composition is fine here with the viewer aside and with the bridge at back. Good photo quality with good light and depth. Enjoyed the effect of slow shutter speed of 3sec. Nice one. Tfs.

The long exposure time has a most interesting effect on the fast running water of the river. The worshippers sat on line by the riverside draw the viewer's attention toward the focal point of the bridge.

This is a fine composition where you have captured the intensity of emotions during the ritual. The partial blur, caused by the long exposure, increases the very special atmosphere. The lines of people along the diagonal green river make the composition very attractive.

Original and gorgeous image of this mythical river, funny how all these people are contemplating the passage of fast waters thereof certainly see a raging river or ocean waves, seems to have something hypnotic. A gorgeous photo night.
Perfect both luminosity and sharpness.
Well done. I love it.
Enjoy a nice day.

Excellent evening snapshot. Superb arrangement with the people along famous Ganges River. I have seen Ganges in Haridwar two years ago, and in Benares and also Bangladesh some time ago. Great river. Well seen and captured.
p.s. The blurred thing in my photo is building construction/renovation cover.

J'aime bien la texture de l'eau dans cette composition. On dirait qu'elle bouge à la vitesse d'un train en furie.J'aime bien aussi le flou chez les spectateurs.

In order to get silky effect on river, you used very slow shutter speed. But it let the other part of the picture blurred. Well, it's kind of trade off.
williamcoombs1 (363) 2014-02-27 7:28
This is such a photo! The rushing water and stillness of the people, especially the man in the foreground create wonderful contrasts. You've made the water look so threatening - a great effect!

A fascinating take of this massive river, who can blame these people who sit he and admire the beauty. It's color is like a form of jade. I love that your long exposure too, it's created this silk effect to the water and has given hee pee an almost ethereal feel, as if they are spirits taking in this moment. I have never seen a shot of this place quite like this, very nicely done.

nice shot that captures the spirit of the place.like the light management here and how the technique involved has an effect on water, which adds to the daze factor.

nice the created depth from the holy river of ganges with the lot of pilgrims to sit at its both sides.I like the perspective with the use of the 3 secs to make the scene even more effective.Well done.

You have handled the difficult light onditions very well with the 3 second exposure creating an interesting appearance along the water, this gives it a nice sense of movement, whilst the stationery people help to give the image a good depth.
A very interesting moment well captured.
Best regards Les.
Royaldevon (41062) 2014-02-28 15:12
It was a brave decision to use a slow shutter speed, for it would collect as much light as possible but would blur the moving people. As it is, it has worked really well for the Ganges looks almost like silk, a truly 'holy river', and the people have a very spiritual quality.
A fine viewpoint uses the movement of the river as an effective guide.
Can you explain the red letters on the bridge?
Have a great w/e,
mcmtanyel (25654) 2014-02-28 17:39
A beautiful time exposure, I like the sharpness of the stationary objects. The color of the river reminds me of Alpine rivers.

Seul le bruit de l'eau semble couper le silence, bel effet de l'eau en plus des lumières, belle présentation

Namaste Subho. The power is there even at this early part of Ganga's journey. And the water is pure and i presume quite cold here. When it reaches the sea, it is a sad river. I wonder why three seconds as it was bound to catch the blur of people moving. I presume it was so that you could give the river the a special appearance. Regards. Klaudio.
pierrefonds (68955) 2014-03-04 16:23
You have captured well the power of the river. The length of the river is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the people watching the river. Have a nice day.

this picture is very attractive and significant, you managed to capture the setting, the people's attitudes and the atmosphere in a way that captivates the viewer and makes them feel like they are part of this view. The movement of the water is amazing, the river has an overwhelming presence and you've captured effectively the people's connection with him. There's great depth and a delightful warmth in the colours and atmosphere. The black backdrop and the white tones add superb contrast. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,

Haridwar by night is a open air spectacle Subho, music, the crowd and activity around the ghats, Ganga river is very cold in that place especially during the winter season as it comes not so far the "cow's snout", greetings
