This place is Gaumukh,The origin of the holy river The Ganga is here, set in the Gangotri Glacier, and is a 18 km trek from Gangotri.
The pilgrimage is Ganga River's source, which is located at the height of twelve thousand nine hundred sixty feet. The iceberg of Gangotri River lies at a height of thirteen thousand six hundred sixty two feet, which is above the Chaukhamba. This extends till the Gaumukh. At this location, the River Ganga gushes out from the icebergs, that can be seen at backdrop below the snowcapped mountains ,these are the Bhagirathi groups.
When sages moved from one ashram to another, it was customary to carry fire along. The inconvenience to carry a burning substance over long distances may have given rise to the symbol of a saffron flag. Triangular and often forked saffron flags are seen fluttering atop most Sikh and Hindu temples. Here nothing exception occoured. This is a tiny temple made of flat stone placed one above another with a height of maximum 4 feets, where lord shiva along other god photos and stone made figures exists.
If there is any colour that symbolizes all aspects of Hinduism, it is Saffron – the colour of Agni or fire. Fire burns away the darkness and brings light and it is symbolic of knowledge burning ignorance. Fire also shows the spirit of Yagna (Ritual of the sacred fire) which is important to Self knowledge. As such, the fire altar is regarded as a distinct symbol of ancient Vedic rites.
A colour of purity, it represents religious abstinence, purging and resultant purity. It is the colour of saints and ascetics, those who have renounced the world. Wearing saffron colour symbolizes the quest for Knowledge of Godhead.
It is the color of holy men and ascetics who have renounced the world. Wearing the color symbolizes the quest for light.
If you are enough tight with confidence, bold, trustworthiness and faith on your god, here the flag is for you. The Nature is yours, you have to meet the challenges to get the beauty of her.

merci pour cette superbe photo, et pour son commentaire très instructif. Quel meilleur moment pour la présenter que cette fin d'année, symbole de paix et renouveau.

This is a beautiful image, and your accompanying note is thoughtful and poetic. It is so brilliant to be able to read your note and connect in a more meaningful way to the image you have shared.
The picture has such a fine composition, hiding the sun behind the material like this alludes to the seeking og light or knowledge, and makes me think that the quest to find this light may be an interesting journey. The capture has perfect composition, light, color and clarity. Wonderful capture, thanks for sharing.

Nice shot of the Bhagirathi peaks in the BG. They make good contrasts with the deep blue sky. Great composition and framing.
Saturations are a little too strong for my liking, but that's always a personal preference.
Lovely shot capturing the stunning beauty of this part of India. Thanks for sharing.

marvellous idea to cover the sun by the saffron flag. It balance the light in frame as well as made the flag a nice point of attraction with its glow. Can remember the little temple. Beautiful composition. Great. Tfs.

A lovely picture from Gaumukh. You have used the flag mast and the saffron flag to great use masking the sun and also creating a fine transparent feel. The deep blue sky & the snow capped peaks of the mighty Himalayas look great!
