I just have to share this…

I met one of the wandering Sadhus (Monks) in the Kathiababa Temple at Vrindavan. Though there were many, he in particular was very excited seeing me taking pictures of the temple and its surroundings. This Sadhu (as I did not ask his name/nor did he say) has left his home twenty years ago. Since then he has traveled many places across India in search of spiritual freedom. Seeing the camera in my hand he came rushing towards me and requested me to take a shot of him. He has never asked anyone till date to take his picture. This was the first time he was asking someone. Quite naturally, his expectation was sky high. I readily agreed to his request little wondering that he wanted to have a hard copy of the same. He went to his place of rest and brought his container which holds holy water, set this dress properly and selected a good place for framing. He loved to stand near the flowers. I clicked his picture and his joy knew no bounds. But the heartbreak soon followed. He told me that he will pay for the picture. This is when I realized that he wanted to have a hard copy. How stupid I was!!!

It was not possible for me to provide any hard copy to him, as I was leaving that place the very day and there was no studio nearby. His hopes sank rock bottom! And his looks killed me. I felt as if I had missed a great opportunity of serving one such holy men.

By posting his picture on TE, I am confident that many people all over the world will see him. Even though he will be ignorant of this fact, I just hope that I am being able to fulfill his expectation to some extent…

Roy,
An interesting photography from this exotic man. Nice composition, friend.

Interesting! He looks very thin in his long cloth - and there are many other vertical references in the frame. Its culturally unique and warm in nature.

Samrat,
That is nice and of you and also fortunate of you to have a chance to photograph this man. Yet unfortunate for him to not be able to have print of it. He would have bene proud if he were to have this image. You did a good job with the composition to include him nest to the blossoming tree that adds much color and liveliness to the image. Good sharpness, much better than some of your earlier posts. Color is a little warm, too much yellow I think. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Samrat,
One of the nicest sadhu photos I've seen. I suppose the fact that he posed might make it so, but somehow, his downcast eyes make it seem quite natural. Wonderful color and detail.
