Vrindavan, one of the most renowned and respected, holy places of the Hindus. As per mythology, Lord Krishna spent his childhood as well as a great part of his adulthood in this region. According to localities, there are around 5,000 Hindu temples at Vrindavan. And almost all of these temples are dedicated to Lord Krishna. All of these temples have their own keepers as well. Seen here is a shot from ‘Kathiababa Temple’. Though he is not wearing one, most of the sadhus (monks) of this sect wear a hard round wooden plank round their waist. They do not take this off till the last day of their life. The main intention of doing this is to keep themselves away from comfort of any sort. They walk, eat, bath, meditate, sleep and do every day-to-day activity with this wooden plank around their waist.

Wandering monks come to this place and take shelter for a week or so in these temples. They have dedicated their entire lives in search of God and Nirvana! They sing songs of God and meditate all day long, with occasional relaxed moments with their fellow brethren. Lunch and Dinner time is fixed by the temple. Breakfast usually occurs after morning prayers. The food normally is very simple, but if they are lucky (sometimes the rich arrange for a feast for the sadhus), they get to eat good food.

In this shot, the sadhus have gathered together for having breakfast. Usually one of the temple keepers sits with a large vessel containing the food (usually puffed rice, fruits, milk, curd). The sadhus get around him with their small containers and take the offerings. Happy with whatever they get, they relish their food with utmost joy and return back to their peaceful life.

Welcome to a life of intense physical endurance…..welcome to a different world!!!

Hi Samrat,
Two things I really like about this shot are: the light and the smooth texture. Really fascinating. Very nicely done.

Shaeri
see you later after 2 weeks :)

nice point of view well captured play of light thanks for sharing.

This is a wonderful shot of something it must be rare to see. The light was harsh and difficult to manage, resulting in some patches of over-exposure, but I don't think that matters as the subject matter is what is important here. Well done
Kath

hi Samrat

Very good natural light filtering through to fall on this viewpoint and you have captured the light well. Good shot.

Fantastic light you got there. So good for such a mystical scene. I love it. Great work.

Namaste jee Samrat,
The spotlight on the temple keeper sitting with a large pan is very beautiful. And the motion blur on the walking person by the slow shutter speed, gives an attractiveness to this image.
Best wishes, Hisashi

hi samrat,

in these kind of shots its easy to go wrong with the light - over exposureis the result. but you have got fanstastic light and right ambience. well done.

Hello Samrat
The key thing for this beautiful shot is the light. I like how the shadows on the FG people create an effective frame for the sadhu bathed in warm light. Well seen & well captured Samrat!

Angshu
