The Ganges is worshipped as a living goddess, with the power to cleanse all earthly sins.
The daily prayers (aarti) at dawn and dusk serve as salutations to the river. Oil lamps are lit and offered and bells rung while mantras are chanted.
This was on the main ghat Dasashvamedha and hundreds of people gather every night to observe the aarti. The atmosphere is amazing.

The light on this shot is simply amazing as we can see the flame moving around and the manís face. Well done.

it tears me apart. The great capture of the fire and the light from the fire on him and his clothes is amazing, very well done. And a bit from the opposite (more a pity than a flaw) is the centered position of him and the incomplete lamp (I am pretty sure that this is not easy to capture in the whole). But anyway, this capture of a performance is great.

Fire and flesh are so well and intensely captured here Wanda that they create such a lovely ambiance. I like the way you have composed this difficult scene so nicely and effortlessly.

Great work at with the fire light. Very sharp with good detail. You really have captured a moment. The fire with the light reflecting off the woman and the smoke adding to the atmosphere. Well done.

Hi Wanda. A marvelous study in chiaroscuro. Fantastic composition, animated, dramatic- yet deeply spiritual. Excellent result. Regards. Klaudio.

first, let me thank you for your visit, which allowed me to discover your wonderful collection here. and it also is interesting to receive a guest from a country to which i almost immigrated many many years ago. i still crave to see your beautiful country. maybe one day i'll get to do just that :)
ok, back to the matter at hand here. a beautiful portrait in my opinion. her expression, the fire, the content. love it all. just compositionally, i feel, the image could be more powerful if ou lost part of the empty area on the left. i mean, i like the deep black (could be made deeper in post-processing), but, in my opinion, it breaks the balance of the composition here. other than that nitpicky side-note, my sincere compliments and TFS.

Before I looked at your images with desire and they helped me to imagine my journey and to put to me in the bath (not, not in the Ganges lol).
Now, when I look at them again, full with memories return to me.
This photograph, superb, is an example.
It was my more beautiful voyage.
Extraordinary and magic because I was with somebody who saw over there and who know very well the city.
She live Vanarasi.
I saw and felt full with things and your photographs which I see again make also feel that.
Thank you Wanda.

Youve soaked up the atmosphere just nicely Wanda, with the fire, smoke and that intense look. The black background is just as important, allowing the hint of lighting to stick out.

What a great photo ! I saw it in your randoms and I had to open it... The movement of the flames is superb, I love this composition (and will add it to my theme),

I think this is exceptional photo. I like the composition and warm colours. The man seems very devoted and focused on what he is doing, and this picture tells it well. Very well done!

brilliant mood captured...i am reminded of a film that is being made in tamil called "Naan Kadavul" meaning "god is thyself" (In a more crude way "i am god") which is being shot at ganges.Whats the ISO you used ?

The action/pose of the man is lovely. It seems that the only source of light is that flame..It is very hard to get the photo in very low light and specially when the object is not stand still. I found it a little bit saturated..may be because of the glossy dress of this man it looks like that.
Congratulations for this shot..
