The Varanasi Ganga Aarti takes place every sunset at holy Dasaswamedh Ghat, near Kashi Vishwanath Temple. It is a highly choreographed ceremony. Although a spectacular must-see, some people consider it to be too much of an artificial and showy extravaganza to have a lot of meaning in a spiritual context.
The aarti is performed on a stage by a group of young pandits, all draped in saffron or white colored robes with their puja plates spread out before them. It commences with the blowing of a conch shell, and continues with the waving of incense sticks in elaborate patterns and circling of large flaming lamps that create a bright hue against the darkened sky. The movement of the lamps, held in the pandits' hands, is tightly synchronizing to the rhythmic chants of hymns and clang of cymbals. The heady scent of sandalwood thickly permeates the air.

Hello dwaipayan. What a magical performance. Great colors and illumination. In addition, very atmospheric. Best technical quality for a night photo.

Good low view point leaving the performer just enough focus without over complicating the frame. An amazing effect captured full of warm glow and smoke as we can almost feel the atmosphere here perfectly judged and it works well to conveys the absorbing drama. The colours are still vibrant and exciting despite the lack of light. This is really dynamic timely shot and your exposure control is fine - second to none, Congrats

This is a wonderful shot from low pov. It is really difficult here to avoid the powerful search lights facing camera. You have managed that excellently. Very good colors and clarity.

Namaskar dear Dwaipayan
You captured the essence of this event so skilfully. I love the colours and how subtly you managed the light. The effect of the smoke is impressive and I like the yellowish hue to the image.
