The pic: taken on the banks of the ganges in varanasi as the daily arti(prayer) was conducted.
Agni is a Hindu deity, one of the most important of the Vedic gods.He is the god of fire and the acceptor of sacrifices. The sacrifices made to Agni go to the deities because Agni is a messenger from and to the other gods.He is ever-young,because the fire is re-lit every day,and also immortal.
Agni, the Vedic god of fire, has two heads, one marks immortality and the other marks an unknown symbol of life. Agni has made the transition into the Hindu pantheon of gods, without losing his importance. He is one of the supreme gods in the Rigveda. The link between heaven and earth, the deities and the humans, he is associated with Vedic sacrifice, taking offerings to the other world in his fire. In Hinduism, his vehicle is the ram.

I have a plan to visit The South Asian region again and this photo gives me more positive emotions and I hope to see the Vedic culture again. Good capture of this expressive sacral moment.
Best wishes from Russia!

I do not know much about religious practices in your part of the world but this photo really is impressive and somehow fascinating. All the golden tones - even in the flame - create a very special and a bit mysterious atmosphere. The exposure time of 1/30 sec. works very well here. A worth seeing picture! Thank you also for the interesting note!
By the way, your whole collection here on TE is a real treat.
Greetings from at the time cold, wet and grey Germany!

Ciao e buona domenica

hello dwaipayan. your note made me feel like reading some lines from the silmarillion, such an impressive cult of deities and events you have. and the low pov you had here emphasizes the effect, i feel like witnessing a thousands of years old rite. very well done.

This is a beautiful scene, the lighting and composition is perfect and reminds me of a scene from a movie. the light created by the flame is thrown perfectly over the mans face and the smoke creates and excellent mood. Brilliant note too, thanks for sharing.
All the best

You're capturing well this scene by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see this religious rite of the Vedic culture in Hindu deity. It's also delightful and impressive for metaled torch with fire by arti, although I do not know the doctrine of Hinduism.

What a dramatic shot from Varanasi with the flames leaping out of the brass pot. You were perfectly positioned to capture the priest(?) in the midst of the ritual.
Happy New Year,

Really love the mood of your picture. The little blur on fires due to the eposure time makes it more impressive, more mystical.
Good job !
