Photographer’s Note

Of course if you are a tourist in Varanasi, then you feel you must take "this" photo. Along with the many fascinating things that make up Varanasi, certainly this ritual is the one most known to the outside world.....the bathing in the Ganges or "Ganga" for spiritual reasons. So here it is, and it was fun hanging out at the Ghats. You were never bored.

Great composition of ritual bathing in the Ganges.I have seen many pictures from Varanasi,but yours is really imprest.
Fantastic colours,clarity and sharpness.
I still dream about travel to India.

Hello Steve,
Recently in remote Northeastern India I saw restaurant staff watching the financial news on large-screen plasma TV-sets, I saw a village girl walking between the paddy-fields talking in her mobile phone - but the Varanasi ghats never change. They remain exactly the same as 37 years ago, when I was there, and probably as 100 years ago.
Great shot, very good early morning light, and as always many details to watch.

Hi Steve,

Yes you had to take it and you did it well. Very descriptive photo with the bathing scene and the background. It's not so easy to shoot a scene with so many persons in it. There's often a 1 or 2 that are at the wrong place, look in the wrong direction or something like that. Well, without being perfect, this aspect of things is amazingly very good in your photo. Salut.
