Photographer’s Note

For a few days I have been trying to lay my hand on the flightplans of birds, so that I can capture a few on the air capture. While I did so for a few, they turned out to be hazy not due to hand shake but due to my bad habit of manual exposure leaving aside the high speed shutter preset suited specially for these. The lack of time forces one to shoot with relatively low shutter speeds. Despite all this one is a little better. By the way this is a purple heron. Shall post a grounded frame of it tomorrow on TN with details.

Hello Subhayan.
Nice capture! You did well to take this shot with the camera you are using. The placement of the bird in the composition is very good. However, it is a little blurred. You really need a faster speed than 1/250, as you say in your note - probably 1/1000 to capture it sharply. As the aperture was f7.1 you could certainly make it larger, and the ISO could be increased to 200 to use the faster speed. I don't know if you have that kind of manual control of your Sony camera; it is easier to achieve this kind of exposure with a DSLR camera. But maybe if you can set the ISO to 200 and use the widest aperture possible on your camera, you could do it. Of course, you are right in saying that it is hard to do these things when you don't have enough time! Anyway, it is a nice shot. This bird is similar to herons in Australia, which are grey and have a white face. I love the sight of these graceful birds in flight.
