Photographer’s Note
I kept company with two other travelers in Allahabad. One day the man with us, was very excited at what he had found wandering the streets. He could not believe his eyes. Here was a perfect gothic church, and still in use. I believe it was Catholic, as it had Indian style "confessions" arrangements, and holy water. Catholics may confess to a priest their sins, are given an amount of prayers to recite by themselves, determined by the gravity of sins, and then they pray for forgiveness. (Long ago, the sinful rich could pay to have someone else pray for them). It was beautiful inside also. Allahabad is predominately a Muslim city. It is home to the largest Hindu gathering in the world, the Kumba Mela, a religious festival to wash away your sins in Holy water of the 3 sacred rivers. In India, all religions usually co-exist in peace.
