Photographer’s Note

Prayag at Allahabad apart from being thronged by millions of devotees for the holy dip during the Ardh-Kumbh, also played host to thousands of Brownheaded and Blackheaded Gulls who flew all the way from the high plateaus of Central Asia and Europe during the winter. Their favourite haunt is the Sangam with its constant flow of pilgrims making offerings to the river goddess. These gulls are extremely noisy, especially at colonies, with a familiar "kree-ar" call. During Ardh-Kumbh these foreign visitors were very much part of the festivities around. They were mostly seen flying around in flocks as the sun went down. You can have a closer look at these birds here . This was taken in the morning.
