Photographer’s Note
Today I reached Allahabad for participating in the world largest religious gathering of devottes. I will post a fresh photo daily from Kumbh. This smile is for you all.
The observance of Kumbh Mela is based upon the following legend: Thousands of years ago, in the Vedic period, gods and demons made a temporary agreement to work together churning amrita (the nectar of immortality) from the Ksheera Sagara (primordial ocean of milk), and to share the nectar equally. However, when the Kumbh (urn) containing the amrita appeared, the demons ran away with it and were chased by the gods. For twelve days and twelve nights (equivalent to twelve human years) the gods and demons fought in the sky for possession of this pot of amrita. It is said that during the battle, drops of amrita fell at four places: Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. Thus, the Kumbh Mela is observed at these four locations where the nectar fell.
After visiting the Kumbh mela of 1895, Mark Twain wrote:
"It is wonderful, the power of a faith like that, that can make multitudes upon multitudes of the old and weak and the young and frail enter without hesitation or complaint upon such incredible journeys and endure the resultant miseries without repining. It is done in love, or it is done in fear; I do not know which it is. No matter what the impulse is, the act born of it is beyond imagination marvelous to our kind of people, the cold whites

Hello Vivek. Picture and text are very interesting. For a photo at night and with meager lighting a good achievement. However the photo lives by the merry woman in the foreground, - and coloured by the color lila one. Very beautifully and worth seeing. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hello Vivek, very skillful shot on the fly, with what looks like a touch of fill-flash, eh? You have perfectly detaced this sole pilgri from the faceless brown line beyond. Good stuff!

Hi Vivek,
Good to see you at Ardh Kumbh. I am sure we would get to see some of the finest from you camera. This is just the beginning. The motion blur in the BG against the sharp features of the FG is quite contrasting.
Best Wishes

Excellent picture Vivek with this so lively smiling person in the foreground and all the others blurred in the background giving this feeling of "going there". Very well done.
