More then 6000 spectators for this kabadi final at the rural games held at Kot Gangu Rai.
This was the final day of the games in which 27 teams participated.
NRIs from Canada and America were also there to participate in Kabadi.
Kabaddi is a wrestling sport played in South Asia. The name is derived from the Tamil word (கை-பிடி) "kai" (hand), "pidi" (catch), which is translated into "catching hands". Two teams occupy opposite halves of a small swimming pool or field and take turns sending a "raider" into the other half, to win points by tackling members of the opposing team; then the raider tries to return to his own half, holding his breath and chanting the word "Kabaddi" during the whole raid.
The raider must not cross the lobby unless he touches any of his opponents. If he does so then he will be declared as "out". There is also a bonus line which ensure extra points for the raider if he manages to touch it and return to his side of the field successfully.

this is a very interesting and funny sport and your picture is a great illustration that complements the precise description in your note. In spite of the subdued and moody light, the busy frame and the athletes' movement, there's great clarity. I like very much the tension of the scene in the foreground as well as the captivation of the two rows of spectators in the background. The expressions play a great role in the image's charm. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

Welcome to TE! It is great to welcome newcomers. They bring a fresh perspective on the world with their photos and on one's own photos with their unique perspective. I hope you are having as much fun as I have had for the last 9 months (or so).
You have a very spirited scene here. The intensity of the players is apparent from their facial expressions. The intent looks of the spectators provide a nice frame. When I saw the thumbnail, it reminded me of oil-wrestling, the national sport of Turkey. Thanks for a high quality photo and for introducing me to a sport I was not even aware of!
