Photographer’s Note
Wagah, an one in only Army outpost on Indo-Pak border - between Amritsar and Lahore, is an elaborate complex of buildings, roads and barriers on both sides. The daily highlight is the evening "Beating the Retreat" ceremony. Soldiers from both countries march in perfect drill, going through the steps of bringing down their respective national flags. As the sun goes down, nationalistic fervour rises and lights are switched on marking the end of the day amidst thunderous applause.

Hello Subhash,
A slightly funny picture, but it's nice to know that this border is now a relatively peaceful place. I walked across this border 35 years ago, when the gate was open for just a few hours once a week. There were certainly no audiences applauding my entry into India, but it was a great feeling for me to cross the white line knowing that now I was in India, I had reached the goal of my long journey through Asia.
Best wishes,
Gert
