Photographer’s Note

Re-visiting...trying to bring back memories..this one from Dal Lake - Kashmir, North India..at 5 in the morning..

With the onset of militancy in the immediate area, tourism dwindled in the late 1980s and 1990s.

However, after concerted efforts by the authorities, tourist inflow has slightly improved in the 21st century. Wi-Fi internet access was implemented across the lake in November 2003, making it the first lake in the world to provide wireless internet connectivity.

Uncontrolled macrophytic growth, introduction of exotic species like azolla , salvinia etc and silt are major problems affecting the lake.

I had an emotional surge when i was confronted with magnificent view and magic light....this is where it all began..this is when i started "connecting with nature"....

This marvelous picture retranscribes perfectly what you explain in your excellent note... Magical moment indeed.
The vaporous mist gives a quiet and silence atmosphere that even these two embarcations can not break.

A beautiful, entrancing morning photo. The mist rising from the water and the soft blue tones with a mere hint of pink make this a mystical picture. I love the placement of the two tiny craft approaching each other. This is an incredibly subtle, magical and atmospheric photo. And a great note, too.

this is very different from the last photo from you that I commented, but equally fascinating, love the foggy scene, and the blue cast adds dreamy mood, the result is almost Zen-like. beautiful, nothing more to say.

There is a very special atmosphere and mood emitting from this image. I love the mistiness and the blueish colouring, and the two tiny boats are wonderful elements in the vast watery landscape as their tiny shapes punctuate the scene.

Seen gazillions of pictures from Dal Lake, but have to admit this is as fresh as it can be...the highlight being the mist rising from the lake waters creating such an eerie feeling...the two boats, at a distance from each other, and a must for this compo. creates a minimalistic beauty...and the blue tone..excellent!

Hello Sayeed,
I was here in the 70's, in the 80's and in the 90's. The 00's only have six weeks left, so I won't make it this decade. Apart from the very beautiful and emotional picture, with a great blue tone and some amazing haze, I am most astonished to hear about the Dal Lake as the world's first wireless lake. Who would have expected that?
