Photographer's Note
My 7th anniversary in TE was 4 days ago
7 years ago, I joined this site to know more about the world through photography, and also to improve my own photographic skills. I do not know if I have made any improvements as a photographer in this six year journey...you are the best judge, but the fact is, I feel happy in sharing photographs with you all, made friends in the way, some of whom I’ve had the privilege to meet in person.
Sadly, a lot of my TE friends I had met up in the last 6 years are either inactive or left the site....some have left very recently, silently. The exodus of photographers continues...its honestly quite painful to see when I look back at all the fine years in their company. But I still believe there’s quite a lot of talent, both old & new on display here, from whose pictures, I learn almost every day. On my part I try to share with you pictures from various parts of my country, India & also showcase the places less traveled. In short, I am still quite excited to be a part of TE!
This is a picture which I took in Thiksey Monastery in Ladakh . The morning prayer was on...a solemn ritual, but the novices seemed bored. You can’t blame them…they are just kids!
You may see here, Patrick (yquem46)’s picture of the novices, taken in the same room in Thiksey.
I take this opportunity to thank every one in this community for sharing such wonderful pictures from every parts of our beautiful planet. Seeing your pictures has indeed been an enlightening experience for me. A special thanks to those, who have taken time & efforts to comment or critique my pictures, helping me, but a novice, in my quest to improve my photography and knowledge

What a lovely title! Modestly spoken from one of the persons I admire here!
I like in a strange way the blown-out lamps here, a very significant. I often find in monasteries or temples that the atmosphere is totally destroyed by the bright, bare lights that the head monk seems to be proud of. Worse are the garish neon lights that often halo the buddha.
It's been my privilege to learn to know you over the last seven years Anghsu and to enjoy your work. Looking forward to more.............

Hello Angshu,
Nice note for this anniversary. If you are still a novice it is because you are still learning, still curious, still trying. A good thing, and I hope to stay novice for still a long time.
You chose a good shot for this milestone, well in the spirit of TE: to show the world.

Hi Angshuman,
Congratulation for your 7 years on TE, You have captured well the expression of the novices during the morning prayer. The point of view is showing the details and colors of this area of the monastery. The surrounding light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Angshuman,
J'aime beaucoup la construction de cette image. J'aime les couleurs vives même si c'est à l'intérieur, j'aime le sujet avec ces jeunes moines qui écoutent les vieux.

Hello Angshuman. This photo is so beautiful and vibrant as all your photos. But I think the term novice is not true of your photos. All your photos have a quality well above average. Anyway, today's photo is also lively and instructive. In a word, masterful. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Hello Angshu,
first of all - happy anniversary! I love your photos and your notes are always very interesting and informative! Thanks for your contribution.
As for this photo in here, it is another great shot with excellent composition and charm. I like the impression on monks faces, some of the boys look like children in our churches - simply bored ;-) Lovely, vivid colors.
Thanks for sharing

Hello Angshuman,
a very beautiful daily life shot. The perspective is excellent. The light and the nicely contrasting colors that are characteristic of India create a pleasant mood. You are presenting a wonderful image on the occasion of your anniversary; congratulation! It was also a pleasure reading the notes.

Hi Angshu
Well, I can say for sure that I'm glad you are still around sharing with us your fine work, and I do hope to meet you in person one day...as i will eventually find my way to India :)
For me personally, TE has re-invigorated my love and passion for photography, it kick-started my passion all over again :)
this is another fine example of why TE is so wonderful and such a learning tool...a perfect Cultural photograph. Here in Canada, you'd be extremely hard pressed to find such a scene.
As a child, it must be hard at times to keep your composure for these children :)
lovely shot of the surroundings

Hello my humble friend!
You, a novice?... Come on Angshu!
Well, we might all be novices when compared to masters, but you have developed your skills extensively over the 7 years you have spent on this site. Being a very active member and passionate photographer, there's no way you could have possibly not evolved one way or another. I am sure that you are more instinctive and confident when raising your camera to your eye, your sense of observation have become more acute and that you anticipate the result even before clicking. You have built up your style, you have defined your circle of photographic interests and you know your flaws that you have to overcome.
So I don't think you qualify yourself as a novice Angshu, sorry to tell you... :-p))
This photo can only prove my points.
You have lowered yourself to offer an interesting angle and to place yourself at the height of your subjects. Novices don't do that.
Despite difficult light situation, you came out with an excellent exposure management. Novices can't achieve that.
You confidently entered this monastery and didn't let yourself being intimidated by praying/reading monks. Novices stay outside and shoot through windows or among a group of tourists.
And novices don't put their heart into photography like you do.
Congratulations for 7 years on TE. It's good to have you among us!
Cheers buddy!

Hello Angshuman,
Congratulations for your 7 years. If you're still a beginner with that quality of your photo then what we must say. I love that shows us images that are special and different. I won't have the opportunity to see something like that close but your image traveled me once again.
Have a nice day,
Greetings,

Hello Angshu,
congratulations on your 7th years in the site with your excellent and unique photos to 'decorate' it perfect.Excellent your reportage shot from the interior of the Monastery with the light and the colour management to are superb.
If you are novice what can they say all these news members of the site with their quality and their themes to are so superficial and lightweight.

Greetings dear Angshu and congratulations on your 7 years on TE, that's dedication and a confirmation of your enjoyment of the site. I for one enjoy your work and have been transported to places I probably will never get to see; it's super to see through your 'eyes'.
This shot actually makes me smile. A traditional setting with all the accoutrements of Buddhist learning and thought punctuated by the modern electrical boxes (not sure what they are. The bored young man would probably like to be texting on his cell phone like most teenagers!
Warm regards rosemary
PS. It is a shame we have lost some really good talent from the site and I appreciate you still being here

Congrats on7th,
A well captured shot, it almost feels like an intrusion looking at the monks going about their business within the monastery. Their red robes are excellent against the detail of the building pulling all attention and the splashes of additonal colours really stand out to make this shot a real eye catcher and so much peace reflected. This is remarkable shot my friend. Congrats

Hello Angshuman,
Congratulations on these 7 years, and thanks for a lot of marvellous pictures. Many good photographers have left TE, but you are still here and others are joining all the time and eventually becoming established and respected regulars.
As for this photo, it's quite lovely, so rich in colours and details in a very good light. I truly enjoy watching these boys and a few older men with their various degrees of attention or absentmindedness. There is some modern equipment that looks a bit out of place, but after all this was 2011 and even Thiksay is keeping up with the rest of the world.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Angshuman,
You are so modest. I like to think, I'm still a novice too. It makes me feel young :) Your title lead me to think of the movie "7 Years in Tibet" and the image however reminded me of the movie, "Little Buddha" Anyway, I think we are in someway or the other inpirational to each other. Thanks for your kind words to my photos and it means much to me and it is the source of inpiration as well as encouragement. It is part of the reason we are here to inspire and to be inspired. It is one of the reason, I'm still posting even if not as much as I used too.
Thanks for your support through the year and all the wonderful photos shared. I have learned much from your gallery and many others.

Hi Angshu,
I appreciate your honesty in the comments to my photos recently. I am aware of their quality but recently I have not that many possibilities to take new photos so I sometimes share pictures of various quality :(
Congratulations on your anniversary. It is always a pleasure to meet you and your photos here.
This picture is really impressive. I like the perfect balance of the exposition in all areas. Great colors. The boys in characteristic clothes make a very interesting theme.

Hi Angshuman!
Congratulations:)! It has been great to see your good shots along these years and I'm glad you chose one of this region to celebrate:)!I remember Patrick's photo and I like this one also - the details of the monastery, the expressions of the boys and mainly this one, looking outside and so lost in his thoughts! Good daily scene in the monastery!
Hope you'll stay here for many years more:)!

Hello Mr. B,
It's a pleasure to see that you are still active and submitting spectacular exotic images, always accompanied by engaging notes. This one is no exception. This shot of the young novices in a monastery in Ladak is a case in point. You've managed the light perfectly.
I too am closing in on seven years, but with 400 photos I don't begin to compare with you in "commitment to the cause."
Warm regards, Mr. B, I hope you've had a good Sunday. We are just about to begin ours.

Hello Angshu,
I apologize that I missed your anniversary on TE. Congratulations!
You managed very well to show us the many beautiful colours of this likely rather dark interior.
The composition is excellent and you show us a well balanced picture.
The young novices may look bored but they don't allow themselves be distracted by the photographer.
I've also visited Thiksey Monastery but that was in 1994.
