Each morning at dawn the men of Srinigar paddle out in Dahl lake in shikaras to trade in the various food stuffs they have produced. Here is one such morning.

Hi Steve,
What a hive of activity, interesting that there are no women in the scene, men only.
Very good composition and POV, you have captured the atmosphere perfectly. I like the way you have used the foreground boat to set-up the image.
Nice work.

HI Steve, its a beautiful group portrait of this daily morning activity. I like how they are circled around the food while each of them is sitting on their boat. Thanks for sharing...Alex

Hi Stephen,
I think that this is a really interesting photo. I like the way the one boat draws us into the circle of men as they are busy with the food, and that beautiful light shining on them also draws our attention there. Also I like the busy scene beyond their group giving a great sense of the busy morning.
This is one place I would still like to visit one day.
Good quality scan too.

Wanda

What a hive of activity, this place and all of your manipulations of the original(all Greek to me).Impressive POV where the long boats/canoes give the image an elongated look with the eye being led to the bunch of traders forming a horseshoe assembly and then the eye wonders deeper into the image. a clever composition Steve. I like this daily scene a lot. Regards. Klaudio.

Superb, Steve.
The boat makes a great diagonal lead-in, and the wide platter of buns a great focal point. Love the cavalcade of white hats surrounding it, too. And behind there's just seething activity. Great scan again of an old shot - remarkable job you've done.
I'm still in France but will be home in 10 days. Might think about another get together in a few weeks. Would you be interested? I asked Klaudio and mentioned it to Alfred via TE.

Andrew

Hi Steve,
A remarkable improvement in every way. It's a fascinating location, and the composition of the shikaras creating like a star around the baskets is very attractive. I like the vertical format and the nearest shakara leading my eyes into the picture, but I would have enjoyed something else than a blurred hand in the foreground.

Gert

Hi Steve,
You know what the bread on the boat reminders me of? When I was a kid, living in Murree my family would visit Rawalpindi, in the old Kashmiri quarters we knew a few kashmiri families and upon our visits to them we would be served with sweet kulcha (I believe thats for sale on the boat) with kashmiri chai. This picture bespeaks of a distant world plagued with war and destruction for over 62 years. So many times I have said this, I envy you. This is a great picture and gives true meaning to the spirit of TE.
Thanks
Kamran

Hey there,
This is a great shot - good positioning you got to capture it - and the subject is just so interesting. Excellent work!

Hi Steve,
Very natural colour despite scanning from RVP. It seems you have obtained a quantum improvement in quality than original shot. The attractive scene has been captured with a ultra super wide lens at that time on the unstable shooting position.
Best wishes, Hisashi
