Photographer’s Note

Pangong Tso is situated far away in barren land in Ladakh close to China border. This is the one of biggest lakes in Asia. One third of its area is in India and remaining 2/3rd in China. It is 130 kms long and 7 kms wide. It is located on the Changtang plateau in eastern Ladakh, around 140 kms SE of Leh, at an altitude of over 14000 feet. Pangong Tso is also known as hollow lake. Its brackish water plays with sun light to produce different colour effect. This area falls under Indian Army control and requires pass from Commissioner of Leh.Road to Pangong Tso takes us through Chang La Pass(at 17,800 feet), the third-highest motorable pass in the world.Just two km short of lake one passes through the gravelly terrain, which is open on the left side. One can see the tail of Pangong from here. The first sight of turquoise blue water of lake is very refreshing after crossing snow desert.
