Photographer's Note

After we crossed the camp site of Sarchu on the Leh Manali highway we faced the the 'Gata Loops'. Gata Loops is a series of 21 hair pin bends which takes you to the top of the 3rd high altitude mountain pass on this route 'Nakee La'. The loops will take you from a height of 4190 meters to 4630 meters. Sadly all the bends are not visible from any single point. This is the best vantage point I could manage on the top of the loops. The river to the left of the frame is called 'Tsarap Chu'. It is 182 kilmters long and originates from the glaciers of 'Pankpo La' pass at the border of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Due to the constantly winding road and high altitude tourists may face problems like nausea and head ache. Leisurely travel and very less physical activity is advisable.
