The village of Komik lies below the Komik Gompa or Monastery, and is visible first from the immediate approach from Langza.
Komik village (4,250 m) is said to be the highest village in the world, possibly untrue (or is it the highest village in world linked by a motorable road?...that’s more likely).
The views of the Komik village from the monastery at almost 4,600 metres above sea level with the snow capped mountain ranges in the background, the play of light & shadows on the mountain slopes, the furiously fluttering prayer flags were awe inspiring to say the least!
The zoomed view compressed the perspective view of the village with part of the mountain slopes in the BG.
Post Gregg's comment : I am posting this version of the same picture, where the brown tones were as they were in the RAW file, before I boosted the contrast in PS.

Cold, dreary, desolate - and beautiful. Your smart composition makes the village look even more isolated by placing it at the very bottom of the picture and by cropping the background mountains so that we cannot estimate their height. The areas of thin green grass in the foreground give way to rolling brown hills and then to the snow-clad mountainside.

Well composed with the several horizontal layers. The zoomed view shows us very well the different parts of the landscape at different heights and very distinct from each others.
We see that in this barren and rugged landscape the villagers have been able to cultivate a part of the surrounding land.
I dare not think at living there in winter.
Best regards, Paul

pretty colors of these three plans, interesting place
as for me, this image processing too aggressive.

Hello Angshuman. Another photo from your series. One sees very well the transition from the inhabited area (houses fields, etc.) into the snow-capped mountains. Photographically perfectly realized. Informative text. Well done. Rgds, Wolfgang.

The point of view is sending my eyes toward the village then toward the mountains which is giving depth to the composition. It is also allowing me to see the details and colors ofd the architecture of the houses of the village. The afternoon light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Those houses in the FG are very impressive. At the altitude over 4,000m it is simply amazing to see that there are people living with such extremely thin air. Your composition is very well thought out. Absolutely bare ground, and the absence of green trees make me imagine the life in the winter season. We have a glimpse of the even higher peaks of those mountain in the BG. Exclusion of the sky is an intriguing way to make us wanting to see what lies up there. I can well imagine that you had some difficulty. These photograph have very precious value as an important document, we are very lucky to be able to visit and enjoy such beautiful view in the comfort of our environment. Thank you Angshuman-san for this and other very precious images. With my compliments,
Very best wishes,
Have a very pleasant Sunday!!

Bonjour, cher Angshu,
Nous replongeons avec plaisir au coeur de ces montagnes et prenons chaque fois de l'altitude pour admirer la beauté sauvage environnante.
Un grand merci de ce merveilleux partage.

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
the colors and the textures of the mountains and the fields, which you offer us in this good framing, form a very attractive pattern, with a strong graphical interest.
As usual, your photos taken at high place have a great quality of image, a great sharpness and a few very vivid colors, I guess because of such a pure air.
The composition is very nice, you have done an excellent work.

Hello Mr. B,
It must be an overwhelming feeling to see this area in large scale. What is most impressive is the wall of snow covered mountains used as a backdrop, and the tops not shown. They could rise forever! I like the colors better in this version than the "Post Gregg" version.
mkamionka (31525) 2011-08-23 2:09
great idea to close up a fragment of this spectacular panorama. It allows us to appreciate the variety of layers and their colors. Green, brown, black and white... It sees so rich and unusual. The houses in the foreground make great scale markers and add some life here.
abmdsudi (44966) 2011-08-23 3:06
An impressive stretch of mountain range here with all the fields laid out which has basically three wonderful different layers in colour tones and textures from this view point; the snow patches, the terrain in mid foreground and 'flat' land in the foreground with fresh green patches. Your 50mm view point reflects the real vision as it actually was, without any lens distortion all well detailed superbly and crispy sharpness in particular love those textures and dark shaded areas of the slopes on top frame, which help to boost the depth greatly. All the houses offer excellent detail, scale and contrast there, even the tiny blue windows are clearly visible, thanks your attention to detail, and superb overall contrast offered by those 'white tiger stripes' Marvellous and a pleasure to view a wide open space dominating the frame, a perspective of the scene that I will never be able to witness for myself and certainly looks very remote. Great shot of high quality, and great notes as always. Congrats

Interesting framing with the small village against the layers of green mountains and the base of the snow sprinkled mountains in the BG. At 4250 the mountains are just starting to go up!! Simply amazing.
We tried to ski Mauna Kea on Hawaii. The summit is only 4205, and we weren't even at the summit. Still I climbed about 15-25 meters, took the shortest run I've ever taken and then went back to the car and went to sleep. Not only couldn't I breathe, but the rental didn't run well either. It must require some special carburetion adjustments to get cars to travel to this village.
subhendu_bagchi (25935) 2011-08-24 2:14
as usual an excellent shot from you. Nice composition. Like the layers of colours. The white part of the mountain is nicely contrasting with the rest. The monastery is looking superb at middle. Great shot. Tfs.

I wonder what it is like living on 4250 m and the thin air, but I assume you get used to it eventually!
A very special place indeed, the vegetation is scarce to say the least but still they seem to be growing something there...
A well framed documentary of Komik Village..!

J'aime ce relief qui se déploie par vagues brunes entre le village et les montagnes à l'horizon. Les champs près des maisons témoignent de l'acharnement de la population à vivre de la terre.
