Kaza, located at an altitude of 3740 Meters (12270 Ft) above sea level is a small town in the Spiti valley, Himachal Pradesh. It is the headquarter of Spiti division of the larger Lahaul-Spiti district.
Kaza boasts quite a few unique features. It has the world's highest petrol pump (gas station), which is perhaps the remotest as well (the two nearest petrol pumps are more than 250 Km away), the world's highest car service station (of Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer & exporter) the world's highest inhabited villages and amazing high altitude views.
Kaza also boasts of a monastery. The Sakya Monastery at Kaza is new compared to the ancient monasteries of Dhankhar & Kye that surround the small town. (Kye is about 11Km upstream, while Dhankhar is around 14 Km the other way). The monastery was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in July 2009 & sits right on the main road. A row of chortens or stupas stand on the other side of the road & looked beautiful against the mountain slope illuminated by the setting sun & the clear blue sky

Hello Angshuman ,
The perspective of the line of stupas is splendid . It is not so easy to manage the light when the main subject is in the shade . You have done it very well , and the contrast with the lit mountain is superb .

The Chortens in all its glorious and colourful brightness has been excellently captured. The rugged brown mountainous landscape on the left and the absolute blue sky serves as a wonderful backdrop to the line of chortens - with white, gold and orange.
But where did the (disturbing) electrical wires go ?
Have placed my take from almost the same place a little late in the evening(with the wires)in your ws.
Thanks for sharing.

brilliant the colours of the upper part of the scene with the row of stupas on the right add perspective in the image as lead-in the eye on the backdrop Mt.
I like the play of the light with the shadows as the excellent presentation of the place.

love the light and shade in this beautifully crafted composition. No loss of detail in the darker areas and the clarity is wonderful. An attractive and tantalising image, well done!

nice frame and interesting architecture
I think that these domes are white
too much blue dominant
holmertz (27216) 2012-10-25 11:00
The relatively dark foreground is beautifully balanced by the brightness of the golden brown hillside. The effect of the contrasts is stunning. The chortens are lined up very nicely on a diagonal which gives very good depth to the picture. But what happened to the wires after the first chorten? Did the really end behind it?
SnapRJW (19188) 2012-10-25 22:33
Hello Angshu - Your shot tells us a lot about the location. The harsh barren mountain against the clear blue sky makes a great colour contrast to the line of shaded chortens and I like the 'graphic' diagonal lines you have used to create a strong composition. Warm regards rosemary

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
the sunset light illuminates the slope beautifully, and creates a nice contrast with the row of stupas, aligned perfectly, that we see at the right side of the frame.
The sky is very clean because of the great height of this place, and the image has a great sharpness and a few magnificent colors.
I like the effect of chiaroscuro that you have reached in your composition, which gives him a strong character and a great beauty.
A splendid work.

The distance between the chortens and the mountain is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the chortens. The aearly evening light is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Fantastic shot of this monastery complex timely shot at golden hour with all the elements subtly blended. The view point is great and its dynamic orientation with the stupas nicely aligned and lead the eye through and beyond. Your timing is precise while maintaining good exposure throughout the frame, the warm glowing mountain slope shimmering through is such a great eye grabber and I am overwhelmed by those detailed highlights that you have capture admirably. The contrast to deep blue sky is so stunning, with lots of feeling about this shot. Very elegant shot and good infor note. Congrats.

Excellent shot here. I'm impressed with how well you manage the light with most of your foreground being in the shadow and the mountain in the sun, yet both the shadow and light is well balance in details, not over exposed or under exposed. Not easy to do. The blue sky is fantastic with the clarity of the air at high altitude. I guess I will be seeing some landscape similar in Nepal on the Himalayas area.
I'm leaving this weekend and yes it will freezing my skinny behind off cold. Not looking forward to that but it is best time for a good view and less rain, since the monsoon is over.

If you did not showed the base perhaps they were some disturbing elements
Interesting perspective of the stupas.
Odd difference of lights.
I think it was possible to mask the cables :)
mkamionka (24808) 2012-11-01 15:06
amazing place, you had a challenging light over there but you did a fantastic job with the exposition to balance everything out perfectly. The repeated element of stupa is a great motif and it contrasts interestingly with the rough and well lit mountain in the distance.
Very well done,
