After 3 successive photo posts from the plains of Mumbai, its time to reach rarified heights again ! :- )
Returning from the dizzying heights of Komik (4587 metres) , we passed through villages of Hikkim & Tashigang, our destination being our base at Kaza (3740 metres). The drop in elevation between Komik & Kaza was about 850 metres = 2800 feet. Our car almost hurtled down the slope, along narrow roads winding along the mountains. Towards one side, the steep drop to the abyss below was heart stopping.
We stopped at one place, more of less half way down. From this ‘lookout point’ we could see the town of Kaza & the pea fields by the River Spiti in the far depths. The feeling of vertigo was palpable… one can easily take a tumble down the hurtling depths…& this sheer thought sent shivers down our spines

Congratulations on this very fine work!
Amazing landscape and an excellent exposure, too!
Sharpness and vivid saturated colors are so good!
PoV helped for a breathtaking image!

the composition is very beautiful (and the landscape too, of course) but I think that the posproduction is a bit too much in excess.
It is he light/shadow balance, I think. Maybe the shadows are overcorrected, I don't know. The result, in my opinion, is a sort of fake landscape, a fake light, and it is a pity for such a magnificent view.
I had noticed this also in some other shots of yours.

Wow! That really is quite an awsome view! The tiny town of Kaza with the pea fields looks amazing. But also the snow-covered range is beautiful also. I can imagine the drive was scary and exciting! A very inspiring photo! Warm regards,

spectacular view, thanks for sharing that.
No wonder why you prefer to show us these amazing natural views over the images from city.
I like the brownish tones, the colors are really great.
Nice play of the light and shadows.

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
It is an impressive capture, in which we can enjoy the morphology of this valley and of its majestic mountains, from a high POV above the village, with a strong sensation of vertigo.
The sun light that enters across the clouds creates a nice effect on the landscape, the colors are very natural, and the image is very clean.
This make a very attractive composition, with a high quality.
A beautiful work.

Wow a nice scenery of the snowy mountains with the greenery of the valley
I'm surprised that after all much more snow in HP than in Ladakh, at lower altitudes
Well it's also true that this was in May
A nice compo anyway
Have a nice WE

This is an amazing point of view of the village and of the mountains accross. The way you took the photo is giving depth to the composition. The afternoon light is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Angshuman... the clarity of this beautiful stunning landscape is simply amazing!! I have no words to describe its beauty... an excellent capture. Have a good day
marcan44 (6315) 2011-10-08 13:13
It is understood that the POV was performed from a great height.
Beautiful view of snow capped mountains and the village down the valley.
Great perspective and sharpness.

Looks pretty natural to me. I've also had the "it looks unnatural" comments, for shots taken at high altitude in China, Nepal & India, criticizing the deep blue sky, but it really is that intense colour of blue, at that altitude. Love the speckled patterns of the rice paddies or fields in the valley below. Tfs!

Hello dear Angshuman-san,
Dynamic may be the word to describe the image. It is perhaps I; I have a tendency to see the presented image as a bridge in between the image and how my brain processes the given image. So, I often see first what is not presented in the photo before I begin to see the presented image itself. Does this make sense to you? I have been looking at this image for more than thirty minutes now. And I am naturally and already in your Photo. And am trying to see what you saw through your eyes and through the finder of your camera. For me an image is often seen only as a means to see the real view. So, my brain almost automatically adjusts the presented image in order to come closer to the reality. By-product of such thinking process blocks my capacity to analyse the image presented in a very logical manner. I am interested in the photo. But at the same time I think of what you were thinking when you took this photograph or the others. This image makes me think of this. This must be an intriguing one if it makes me think of all that and much more. I like the presented image very much.
With my very best wishes,
Have a great week ahead, Angshuman-san

So time to return to the heights and with a great capture of a beautiful landscape The mountains look imposing covered with snow
After reading your note I appreciated more your capture and at the same time felt envious of you being in such great ( high) place
Good post production work, I saw your WS and it was really dark, but who knows about it is Stefano

It's splendid to see the valley between the high mountains.
Not easy for this panoramic image to make.
Light and angle choice are good taken.
Composition and colors are pleasant.
Very well done, TFS.

I feel shivers down my sppine already reading your note and imaging the road, it would be impossible for me to go there. Amazing view. is this grey ribbon a river Spiti? I like the patches of light on the slopes. Spectacular landscape.
Graal (103038) 2011-10-10 22:42
very nice landscape. Great mountains and valley. Unusual "walk" You had. Good POV and colours. I like the contrast also. Photo very well done.
Have a nice day.

pablominto (53746) 2011-10-12 23:04
An amazing place, with the town located in this high altitude valley!
We can read the height from signs in nature, like the lack of vegetation and from the snow in May...
Impressive point of view, a fine composition with good details!
subhendu_bagchi (26089) 2011-10-17 11:13
a nice catch indeed. The valley at middle is fantastic and those snow covered peaks surrounded it are just marvellous. Great composition with nice light and beautiful colour contrast. An excellent one. Tfs.

I come late to comment and vote this remarkable photo, due to my very slow pace, but I had to comment it because landscape photography is my favourite one, and this is Landscape in its greatest expression!
What to say in front of such stunning image and panorama? All the words seems inadequate to me and anyhow they fail me. It's a picture which satisfy both the nature lover and the one interested in cultures and towns. So unique are both environment and so strong are the features of the image: colours, textures, sky and every kind of contrasts. It's an image which conveys power at first glance and keep us glued to the monitor!
Great is the word.
npecanhuk (76820) 2011-11-03 13:49
Special regards to the chosen pov, composition, colors and exposure!
TFS - congrats,
adidas5nb (5743) 2013-04-10 1:04
great pov.love the green fields in such a barren terrain and the way the road is prominent and curved across a tributary of the main river at the bottom of the picture.and the town of kaza itself working as a scale to vastness of the place.
