The state of Himachal Pradesh is dominated by three main mountain ranges that spread over the entire area. These ranges are the Dhauladhar Range (4500-5000 m), Pir Pinjal Range (5000 m) and the Great Himalayan Range (over 6000 m). As such the presence of passes in Himachal is quiet obvious. These passes are not only a beauty to feast your eyes; rather they are attractive for adventurous spirit as well.

On the long Manali-Leh highway and providing a route across the Baralacha range is the famous and one of the best trekking passes of Himachal Pradesh - Baralacha Pass .This big pass is located in greater Himalayas at an altitude of 16,500 ft above MSL .The pass itself is 8 km long, spanning from Lahahul to Spiti, and it literally means the pass "Where many roads meet". Here, routes from Zanskar, Ladakh and Lahaul meet which have, for centuries been used by ancient travellers and crossed in all directions. Both the rivers Chandra, and Bhaga-two great rivers of Lahahul district, originates from either side of this pass and becomes ChandraBhaga at Tandi and renamed as Chenab in Dodda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
