Quwwat Ul Islam Mosque, Qutub Minar Complex, Delhi
One of the earliest mosques in the subcontinent, the 1190s quwwat ul islam sits adjacent to the more popular qutub minar. both were built to signify the victory of Qutub Ud Din Aibak and Mahmud Ghori in Hindu India.
This event was the start of islamic rule in the country, with the famed Delhi Sultanate.
The previous hindu kingdom was ransacked, hindu and jain temples broken, and their materials used for this astonishing monument.
the mosque's columns are almost entirely older columns from temples, and islamic laws banning personification in ornamentation have been adhered to by chipping off body part of the animals and humans that adorn the pillars.
