Photographer’s Note
Ganesh Chaturthi Lord Ganesh is the God of wisdom. Come August, preparations to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi - the auspicious day when Lord Ganesh was born - begin with great enthusiasm all over India. Ganesh is the elephant headed son of Shiva and Parvathi. Ganesh is believed to be the harbinger of good luck who removes all obstacles to success. He brings prosperity and keeps natural calamities at bay in the lives of those who worship him. This ten-day festival begins with the installation of the deity, who is then worshipped daily till the immersion on the final day. Small Ganesh idols are installed in homes. Idols can tower 10m high and weigh several tones. On the tenth day, serpentine processions fill the streets and with the accompaniment of drumbeats and music the image of Ganesh is immersed in the water. Devotees chant 'Ganapati Bappa Morya' which means Ganesh, Daddy, please come back soon next year.
Thanks to Vandana jee my great Trekearth friend she is from Pune so knows much about this festival so adding more to this note as told by her.
The Ganesh festival started by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, known as Kesari (Lion) in Maharashtra, Pune, my place. The purpose of this festival was to get the community together and develop the plans and strategy to fight against British when we were under their rule. The famous news papaer "Kesari" also started at the same time. The three main Lal (Lala Lajpat Rai), Bal (Bal Gangadhar Tialk) and Pal (Bipinchandra Pal) were the three who were involved all together.
Now it has taken the form of festival. If anybody really wants to enjoy this festival, Maharashtra especially Pune and Mumbai are the best to visit.

Lovely shapes and colors of the statues, however, the picture seems to have been taken in the shade. The statues to the right of the frame seems to start to lose it beauty due to the excessive shade. A little more sunlight would have made the picture much more sharper.

chanjit,
I think you got wonderful theme to work on.
But I feel though having wonderful subject, you have lot many chance to improve it further.
As Ganpati, Always lavish with color & curves, it is always beautiful to shoot him.
But Only color & shape will not automatically make the best shot.
Lady sleeping on back & man seating besides her was major element which you could use.
Some impressive POV with adding those characters really would have helped you to make a great shot.
It is difficult for me to GUESS how the total set up was at that location, but 2 main characters that could be used, are really over looked & lady popping her bare, Huge belly & Bald man with endless forehead, you kept here for no reason.
Strange but needless bird(Cock/Hen) peeping up from right side. I am really not understanding why all those ares necessary if they are acting any valuable role on stage.
You tried your best for sharpeing but many burnt areas really causing problem here for viwer.
Sorry friend, I am very harsh on you but I am really feeling sad that YOU spoiled such a wonderful chance that can be ended up with great shot.
Really very very under estimated composition.
badly handled.
-Shailendra
PS: Please take it in friendly way. No hard feelings.

Hello Chanjit,
Well TE is to learn the world through photography, and your shot suits best for it! this is an excellent shot which tell us more about lord Ganesha. Even we Indians don't know much about these festivals. Thank you so much for the note!.
Excellent shot! I like the colours, well framed, well composed. This shot is far far better than 50% of shots on TE technically.
I like the composition, the lady sleeping with her "huge belly as described by Shailendra", but for me she is our mother.
EXCELLENT SHOT!!!
GAM GAM GANPATE NAMAH!
Best regards
Vivek

Sir,
The day I returned from Bikaner, I posted my first shot of Lord Ganesha as Vinayak Maharaj. We worship Ganpati first and then start the rituals, be it a sacrifice, yagya or meditation.
How ganpati brings food & basic amenities to the poor artists sleeping and resting by the road side is vivid from your shoot.
They are the real ideals who make the idols we have in our temples.
I have one objection.
Ganpati Bappa Morya, all right, but why did you return from Zirakpur yesterday?????????????
No regards,
veejar

Ganesh is ready for his festival!!
Let you enjoy it.
Is strange to see so many statues together, waiting for someone that will come and carry them.
Interesting note, Chanjit!
And funny to see a sleeping body looking like a sculture..!!

Hi Chanjits,
"Vakratunda Mahakarya suryakoti smamprabaha
Nirvighnam kurumedeva sarvakaryeshu samaprabaha"
Great shot with Ganesha showing blessing all around...the best part of this photograph is the directions pattern of ganesha,s position which gives it a complete effect.
I have givcen a workshop and hav taken off lord ganes on the left hand side. The lady sleeping and also the man's head was distracting....so they are gone and NOW ITS ONLY LORD GANESHA TO BE ADMIRED AND WORSHIPED..
LET ME KNOW HOW YOU LIKE MY WS

Hi Chanjit,
Many thanks for your interesting note!
I think we have to see this pictures as introduction of a culture, than we seen different figures but with a very high quality, and acceptable colours.
Very well done!

Hi chanjit,
There is a lot to say about Ganesh....and I've posted one yesterday which I wanted to call also
"Ganapati Bappa Morya" (I have the song in my head) and changed for "Ganesh Festival".
In your photo, I guess it is the place where they are making these statues...TFS...
All the best,
Marilyn
