Photographer’s Note
Darjeeling is populated by many Himalayan and Tibetan people. I saw this woman carrying a big basket of wood strapped to her shoulders in the traditional Himalayan way. She was climbing with up the steep streets with her load. From her face, she looks like she's been doing such hard work for many years. She was delighted when I aimed my camera at her, but still put out her hand for a coin when I was finished. I think it was worth it.

This is a very nice shot Eva. I like the expression in her face, and im sure it was worth a coin.
And I like this one much more than the first one you posted.

You know what makes that picture so great, it's not only the smile of the old lady but her face that swet happiness and you can feel that on the picture. I am sure that her happiness comes fron the fact she knows that she make you happy.

This is a very beautiful portrait. The DOF emhasizes the detailed face of the woman. Colors are good and your composition is excellent. Good work...you should be proud of this work.

Well, it's certainly a winner. I have some shots I feel this proud of myslef. And my favorite ones are week on sharpness, etc. It's frustrating. Bracket, when you can...

very powerful capture Eva! ;-) your DOf is optimum and the blurred background , even the leather band in front of her indicate how nicely focused you are! very nice to be that close to your subject to make her portrait;-) Am also impressed by her nose jewelry... well done!
PS: I just read your note. I think the penny was well deserved, worth the value for her and so little as per our own standards;-)

I love old people. They really has things to tell. That´s why I like this portrait, it´s like a all life smiling at you, invating you to reach her age... The background it´s not sharp, something that improve the mood of the moment. Congratulations from Madrid.
