It was early morning. I was waiting for a cup of tea by a roadside tea-stall near the Victoria Memorial, Kolkata.
Khap Khap Khap Khap… And I saw this.
Aha! I heard myself humming spontaneously -
“Yankee Doodle went to town riding on a pony,
He stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaroni.”
One of our teachers used to sing this rhyme in our nursery class. We children didn’t know the meaning of ‘Yankee’ or what ‘Macaroni’ was, but we liked the rhythm and used to sing with her in chorus. In our dreams, we used to draw a picture of a brave horseman with a big colorful hat… fading into the clouds.
Now, the scene is in front of me!
It is an old, very old image out of a child’s dream… only the snap is taken now.
Behold, the boy doesn’t have anything on his head. He has lost the hat with a feather.
I am confident, the poor guy will someday find his hat somewhere in the city.
But we are poorer. We will never find what we lost…
Our sweet childhood is gone… forever.

WOW... It is just great Alekhya. A masterful composition and presentation in sepia... A picture of dream... An image from the corner of mind, which was carefully preserved by a little child. Your photo is like the painting of your childhood fantasy. Excellent detail. I like the textures of the footpath and the broken benches and then the second choice is the horse rider. Love how you use the diagonal... It has an impression of 30's english films with sepia tone. Great concept, nice mood delivered. Khub-i sundor chhobi. Post of the day from India (for trekearth). Tfs.

This is nothing but poetry in motion. Love the sun beams falling on the horse and the rider. Your choice of sepia is just perfect over here, I do not miss the colours at all. Brilliant composition. Excellent detailing on the pavement. I do not have the expertise to take these kind of shots, but I know how to appreciate it :-). Brilliant friend, my congratulations on a truly great capture.

You have captured this horse rider from excellent perspective. Monochrome sepia conversion works very well here. Well done.

I visited your gallery and I chose this shot
the title was strange for me because macaroni
in greek and italian is the food
but I red your useful notes and I understood
nice scenery in sepia under sunrays
all the best to you

I see Subho's comment above, this is like a capture of a dream and I fully agree. Something very magical, mystical and almost otherworldly about this. The rays of light streaming in are beautifully, and the whole composition just feels a little surreal. I love your choice of Sepia too, something we don't see much of here on TE, but as you prove so elegantly here, can add so much to a photo. Beautifully done, an eye-catching shot to say the least.

Your choice of sepia adds a sense of age to your photograph which links sensitively with your childhood memories of Yankee Doodle.
I really well composed shot where the lines of the pavement and fence act like guides towards the horse and rider. There is a delightful sense of movement and an anticipation that they will soon be in the spotlight of the sunbeams.
Thank you for sharing your dreams,

The sepia colour and the sun beams care for a very nice picture.
Indeed maybe a dream as rider on these nice lonely way.
Wonderful panorama view, in high quality.

Good shot, you have retained a lot of detail considering the light conditions there. The encouraging rider makes the interest in almost sepia tones with good contrast and long shadows but it conveys the bright light and the feeling of the place really well. For me the technique works but compo-wise, the main interest is too dead-centre! Interesting nevertheless, Congrats, tfs

The sepia monotone works well here. The colour gives it the feeling that is your actual childhood dream rather than reality.
Well taken and nice note so we share what it means to you.
