RESHI, is a new place which I found in the Kalimpong hills. This place is not yet widely publicized because as such there is no hotels or so called views of the mountain.
You can be there to feel the tranquility within the valley with the never-ending sound of Reshi river. I had been there particularly to organize a wilderness camp for the school children. Hence, for us it was perfect. We stayed in tents, cooked our food and bathed in the river.
I don’t know if the tourists will like it or not but for the travelers or trotters its almost next to heaven. Especially on a moonlit night. The people are helpful and shy. Basically the place belonged to the lepchas, as they were very shy they moved away from the main land to the slides of the mountain where they can hide and earn there livelihood basically from farming and there lands are now owned by the pradhans and sharmas. Here you get to see the entire mountain used to cultivate rice by step cultivation method.
To get there:
The place is approx 105 kms from Siliguri, 21 kms from Algarah. You can approach Algarah from Kalimpong or Garubathan, as you cross Algarah which is Deorali, means top of the mountain you get two diversions, one goes to Lava the other to Pedong. Take the road to Pedong, cross Pedong and you move towards Reshi river. We camped beside Reshi. As you cross Reshi river you enter Sikkim and the nearest town is Rehnock. You can also come to Reshi via Rangpo, Rehnock. Lake Aritar is very closed to this place. The road which we follow is the famous SILK ROUTE which leads to Reachella Pass in Sikkim.
The left side of the river is West Bengal and the right side is Sikkim.
My next few posts will be of the same place, keep checking.

This seems like a beautiful place. Getting close to the river bed was the key to getting this good angle. Wish you had written a note about this place, that would have served the dual purpose of promoting tourism in this virgin territory.

Hi Pinakie, this is a very important post -- firstly for the wonderful note and secondly for bringing out this "new" place to nature lovers.
I know this place, I had been around about 2 years back. We were at Pedong for 3 days and had small trips.
Thanks for posting.

First of all - thank you for a great note. It's really informative.

Hello, Pinake. What a fantastic POV. The water narrowing to draw the eye. The different shadings and colors going the same way toward that majestic mountain and great sky. Excellet colors and detail. Just an all around great shot! TFS, Shelly

I'm pleased you added a note to your post. I think this is a place people will like for the simple reasons that it is undiscovered and there are no hotels to spoil the views. It's a place I would take my tent and my camera to enjoy the freshness and clean air. This is a lovely shot from a low pov, the converging trees on either side leads the eye up to the misty hills. The light and colours are excellent, it's a very fine capture and well seen.
