Did you know, it takes seventeen muscles to smile and forty-three to frown?
A group of school children couldn't hide their joy at being photographed as school got over, in Pedong. Although, nothing more than a small village, Pedong has a rich history being located on the historic Silk Road that once connected India to Lhasa via the Jelepla Pass.
But back to the present, this spontaneous laughter reminds me of some of my favourite quotes on why we should all smile more :)
Wear a smile - one size fits all.
Smile and the world smiles back at you.
A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.
You haven't lost your smile at all, it's right under your nose. You just forgot it was there.
Smile, it is the key that fits the lock of everybody's heart.
Smile - sunshine is good for your teeth.
If you see a friend without a smile; give him one of yours.
Beauty is power; a smile is its sword.
Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.
Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.
A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks.
Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles.
There are hundreds of languages in the world, but a smile speaks them all.

Hello Sabya Da,
Smiles are beautiful and so are your pictures. Super angle, and how do you bring out those expressions, amazes me!
>> Thanx for those immortal quotes, really brightened my evening.
leonardoberti (48) 2007-07-11 8:32
The red dress and green carpet of grass is what really makes the picture so attractive. That little boy in the middle, he is a gem.
kevinos (7403) 2007-07-11 8:33
Its a great set of portraits, Sabyasachi, filling the frame with lovely activity and deep saturated colour. It looks a bit posed, I suppose,9that is playing up for the camera) but still very enjoyable. regards kevin
Starscream (891) 2007-07-11 8:37

What a beautifull... 1..2..3... sextuple portrait!!! All those faces a so full of innocence, joy, carefreeness... the red school uniform gives such a vibrance to your picture... another excellent picture...

melmcree (18) 2007-07-11 12:16
A different side of India than what I am used to seeing on TE. I usually see the less fortunate but its good to see some happy faces in school uniforms (uniforms usually means private school, which usually means well mannered and well educated in the US). Great composition and light. It looks like a Kodak moment as they would say here in the commercials.
Emile (20350) 2007-07-11 12:18
The colors saturation are very good in this beautiful shot with the children smiling, we should smile more as you said in your good note, great composition and very well framed.
Well done. TFS.
Lets try to smile more in our daily life.
lasscor (7640) 2007-07-11 12:29

Hello my friend!
Thank you for sharing this nice portrait of this beautiful kids! You found a nice POV and the red is great contrasting to the green! Excellent picture! I see that they had some fun posing to you!
singuanti (15250) 2007-07-11 19:11
Hi Sabyasachi. What a fun time they all look to be having! You did such a great job of keeping everyone situated in a proper spot but we can also feel the spontaneity, motion and fun being had in the moment. It's another keeper Sabyasachi!
Wanda1 (14982) 2007-07-11 20:50
A wonderful shot with a great happy vibe. The contrast between their red jerseys and the green grass makes for an eye catching image. But what makes the shot of course are their amazing smiles.
AiresSantos (56155) 2007-07-11 23:32
Great portrait of this kids smiling. Very interesting POV and angle. Very nice the contrast between these strong colours.

sayan (2617) 2007-07-12 1:51
hello Sabyasachi da,
Wonderful wonderful smile!I did not know the info you placed today! It takes only 17 muscles to smile and as large as 43 to frown!! Ha ha, then why people frown at all, giving trouble to all those muscles!!??
Anyway, this is a beautiful one. Great saturated colours, beautiful smiles and expressions!
Silke (3027) 2007-07-12 4:26
Delightful expressions, great mood, and fabulous colours
patdeph (35748) 2007-07-12 4:47
I like this photo full of happyness with the red colour and the spontaneity of the children.I like your high POV and the black frame reminding the black skirts.A photo full of dynamism that give us a smile.
feather (51130) 2007-07-12 8:10
Seeing all these smiles and we can't help but smile back. It's good how you got them all to smile at the same time and fit them so well into the frame. The red uniform stands out well against the grass.
agbonavita (0) 2007-07-12 8:44
Sabyasachi good to arrive in my work and see this pretty shot rich in smiles and colors.
nicely portrait of the students, they look very happy!
leo61 (0) 2007-07-12 10:06
Wonderful groupphoto of these kids .I like your POV and the kid`s joyfull expressions .
Bruno40 (6658) 2007-07-12 20:41
Great photograph, excellent contrast of green and red colours and good POV.
However, what do you do with the picture in PS? I feel there is something "strange" (I don't know how to call it) in the edges. Pls notice the edge between the left arm of the upper girl and the grass, also her left hand holding the red right arm of the other girl. It seems unnatural... or is t my screen? What is that? oversharpening?
The photo is great overall, still questions about your PP
TFS this joyful picture
Benedict (7076) 2007-07-12 21:56
loud and clear, sabyasachi!
beautiful bright colored uniforms that indeed goes well with all these children's infectious smiles! one never goes wrong with carrying a smile, anywhere, anytime!
vincz (19113) 2007-07-13 0:53
Great multi smiles pictures. The red colors are excellent in front of the green field. Very lively scene.
Angshu (56194) 2007-07-13 0:53
I smiled...not only because it's a good multiple portrait...but more so because this was the day of the week when you posted a picture, at last (now your frequency is once a week)! So I do have a reason to smile & use my 17 muscles!:-) The joy on their faces and their expressions brings in a rush of memories. The red sweaters add a dash of colour
prumod (8300) 2007-07-13 3:11
nice moments captured beautiful... you shared those children lovely moments... they rewarded you with beautiful different expressions of smile... great...
also this contrast is stunning!
siolaw (38290) 2007-07-13 3:23
A nice little school kids group in red uniforms standing out nicely on the green carpet(cloned some garbage> ;D
Superb expressions which i had to put in Marilyn's theme...Smiles of India, as it belongs rightfully there!
japiey (10163) 2007-07-13 3:37
Beautifull smiles, Excellent capture. Why should we bother about the technical works in PP? I really think, sometimes, it gives the right output to the images, isn't it? This is wondrous..From a simple subject ...Ohhh noooo..SMILE is the fantasy in every human, so from a great subject, you turn a GEM in image...That's your quality....I admire that, dear friend.

Outstanding portraiture. The smiles and colour combine here to dazzle, and I like the high quality of the photo overall. The clarity of detail is as impressive as the joy engendered by the smiles. A great note.

ben4321 (9875) 2007-07-21 10:32
Excellent shot of these happy kids Sabya, I like the tight framing and the way you took it from above has given you a simple non-distracting background. The green goes well with the red of their uniforms too.
Yes, it's very well taken, although maybe you could have asked the taller girl on the left to crouch down a bit so that her face was closer to the others.
puzzle (700) 2007-07-24 12:57
