Photographer's Note

This was shot yesterday from the top of a bridge in a place called Palasipara. The district of Nadia in West Bengal can boast of being one of the largest producers of jute in the state.Jute fields spread across miles can be seen during a journey by road.Historically, West Bengal and Bangladesh were the largest producers of jute in the world. The jute industry used to be in full bloom with jute bags being hot cakes. But with the invention of plastic, the jute has suffered a huge decline in glory and jute doesnot enjoy the same acceptance as before.A lush green jute field can be seen in the picture. The 'Jalangi' river can be seen flowing beside it.This river offers the source of water for irrigation to the jute fields.
This landscape can be regarded as a representative of a typical Nadia landscape.
