About Lava Monastery :
The 'Lava Monastery', popularly called as 'Ratnarishi Bihar Buddhist Gumpa' is situated on top of a hill surrounded by pre-historic forests in Lava, West Bengal, India. It is also known as 'Lava Kagyu Thekchen Ling Monastery & Retreat Centre'.
The beautifully constructed monastery was established by the 3rd Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, Karma Lodro Chokyi Senge after the 4-acre site was offered to him by the Buddhist community in Lava in 1987 who requested him to build a monastery for the local people. At that time the monastery opened with only a handful of seven monks and has expanded over the years to accommodate a large number of monks. The monks are mostly engaged in rigorous studies of Buddhist literature.
