A view of the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Rail in Kurseong station.
The toy train on the Darjeeling Himalayan section is not merely a source of delight for the young and old, it also represents the engineering skills of the highest order. The Darjeeling-Himalayan railway extends from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling, which is a distance of 87.48 kms. The construction was started by Franklin Prestage in 1879 and completed up to Tindharia in March 1880. By the year end, it was constructed up tp Kurseong and the line reached Darjeeling in July 1881.

DHR is a theme I can hardly give a miss, good documentary shot. Its a pity though that the steam engines are being increasingly replaced by the diesel locomotives.

I've always wanted to go for a trip on this line, and it looks like I'll have to hurry up if I want to go by steam train. Are the steam engines still used, or have they gone over to diesels?
It's an interesting shot Dhurjati, and composed well, although there's perhaps a bit too much empty space to the right of the locomotive.

I have a particular fondness for trains and your shot here is quite nice. The 18mm focal length really adds to the character of the picture..extending the front of the train to give a sense of impending movement. Good exposure, even though it resulted in a bruned out sky, you have retained nice detail underneath the canopy.
