A Sari seller busy with his business of selling Saris.
A Sari is a popular garment among women in the Indian Subcontinent except Pakistan. It is a 9 yard long piece of cloth which women drape around them. The fabric can be natural like cotton and silk as well as synthetic like nylon etc. Prices can range from a few hundred to a few lakh(100000) of rupees. There are saris which are embroidered with gold and silver threads and are therefore very expensive.
According to me Indian women look the best in Saris, but very few wear it now. I cannot complain though as we men have long discarded our traditional attire.

A nice and very colourful photo from the sari shop. I won't even consider how much time a woman could spend here choosing between the many colours and designs. I am a bit surprised that you write that very few still wear saris. That's not my impression even from my most recent journeys to India. The dhoti, on the other hand, seems to be a thing of the past, at least in the cities.
Thanks for your comments on my latest photo. Regarding your suggestion of a book on Afghanistan, it has already been done:

Excellent shop detail photo in superb light. Very good angle of view. Every time when I am entering shop of this type I ma wondering how fast is the shop attendant showing his saris and how fast is he folding it back. High grade of professional performance.
Very well done.

I always find Indian women to be among the most beautiful in the world, and especially so when wearing the traditional clothing such as the Sari. I think the colors always look superb and give a sense of occasion to the everyday. Your capture here shows those colors so perfectly well, the color of everyday could go unnoticed by most, but you took the moment and share here the most incredible rainbow. The man doing his work in the middle of this scene makes it an everyday moment, but the color stands out so much.
Thanks as always

I am not sure but this looks like the boy who does the folding up of the sari and keeping it back to the shelf, and may not actually be the one selling. If this is so, he is likely to be grossly underpaid.

Very colourful scene of the inside of this Sari shop.
Great Pov, on to this chap measuring the garment out.
Well managed. Tfs, and interesting note.

Fantastic composition, great trade this Sarees, this diagonal that gives us the full shelves of saris, creates a great perspective on the pretty picture, good seller portrait showing one of the pieces, with that great chromaticism.
Very good color, perfect lighting and sharpness.
Well done. I love it.
Have a nice day.

I remember going to an Indian wedding here in Australia many years ago. The women dressed in their colourful saris was the highlight of the day, aside from the beautiful bride and groom of course. So this photo evokes memories of that beautiful exotic day for me. Excellent daily life shot, good strong low POV, vivid colours, good angles and superb depth despite the lighting challenges. Well done, a very enjoyable shot.

I really enjoy these photographs of everyday life, which show us how people work in other countries.
This is a beautifully composed shot with good lead lines and the focal figure strongly positioned. The colours, so bright and engaging, continue throughout the scene.
Thank you for sharing this.
Have a good day,

Not only is this a nice look inside the daily life and cultural apparel and custom, it's incredibly bright and colorful. Plus, you've created a very strong perspective from this angle, the converging lines of the display case are wonderful, especially being filled with varying shades of sari's. Reasonably uncommon in my region, it's not often I see these being worn unfortunately, because they do liven up the senses. Thanks for taking us inside for a locals point of view. Have a great day ahead. Take care.

What a pleasure to watch such a colorful display of saris, having been in India , not noticed women dressing in oxidental way, may be in Hyderabad or industrial cities
Otherway they are beautiful wearing them, always in a gracious way
Good capture of daily life
ourania (43510) 2014-02-24 11:06
the sari is a very elegant garment in my opinion and I've always considered Indian women lucky for wearing it in so many beautiful chromatic combinations. I like very much the perspective you gave to the interior of the sari shop. The colours you captured with precision give us the opportunity to think of and look for countless combinations. You captured the seller naturally during his work and placed him in the frame excellently. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
